I know it's weird to put a link to my YouTube channel before I explain myself but trust me, I'm going somewhere with this. www.youtube.com/@frankinglese7100/videos
HELLO, ladies and gents and a Happy Holidays! I have been waiting a LONG time to share this with the community. Just when you thought this year of resurfacing lost media was over, BOY, do I have something for you? I have a childhood VHS tape with the date of June 1995 that contains a JUICY amount of content recorded from this small and often forgotten window of time in children's progamming in terms of wpbt/PBS/WXEL and TLC's"Ready, Set, Learn!". First is the lost KidVision logo that bops about while the screen slowly scrolls to the left with this rainbow-colored fence.
Next, there's Sesame Street episode "3278" (which is part of my username) otherwise what I like to call "The Magic Banana Episode" which there's actually information of it on the Muppet Wiki which I didn't know until I started uploading the stuff but I might be the first person to actually have it IN MOTION. Some skits I leave out since you find them on YouTube but what's odd is the Muppet Wiki doesn't mention the "Hace Frio" song being included in that episode. What's interesting about the "Felines" skit is that the YouTube version has a light-greenish background color while MY version of it is more GREY. It may not look like it fully but you just have to trust me. Near the end of the episode, it abruptly gets cut off and it's at the "Ready, Set, Learn!" portion. This episode ain't no "Wicked Witch" (Nothing will EVER top that.) but it's still cool that I have it in my possession. The parts are kind of out of order since it was new to uploading videos so yeah, be sure to watch them in order.
There is some obscure "Ready, Set, Learn!: Short Stuff" sprinkled in there and also Richard Scarry. Then there's "Iris, The Happy Professor" (Or "Professor Iris" as my parents raised me on calling it) which isn't lost per se. Just REALLY obscure.
Now we get to the MAIN COURSE of it all. The holy grail. The white whale. "Rory and Me" starring Rory K. Zuckerman. The kids' show that is SO lost to time that you can barely find ANYTHING on it.........until RECENTLY. There were actually TWO Rory shows. This and "Rory's Place". The "Family Song" bit actually came from the end of the special "The Rory Story" which was uploaded on YouTube two months ago by "GrigioGuy". I thought the "See How They Grow" bits were original to this show but it turns out it was already a series narrated by a British lad named Johnny Morris. I guess there is a LOST version narrated by Rory herself.
When I talked about this earlier this year on Facebook, my mom then proceeded to bring the tape back home from storage and it was perfect timing since I was really getting into LSuperSonicQ's lost media content. But then we discovered ANOTHER tape that was hidden in one of our closests so I took it and put into my DVD/VHS combo player just out of curiotisy and much to my surprise, there was MORE "Ready, Set, Learn!" content including more lost "Short Stuff" and TWO MORE episodes of "Rory and Me". How did this elude me for all these years and why do I not remember any of the content in it!?
The "Short Stuff" like "Garden of Love" and "The Musical Lion" I tried looking up and finding on the internet in their entirety with the credits shown in the bottom-left corner. Sadly, I came out empty-handed There's also this version of "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush" that's super cute. The video showing all that has the thumbnail with the tiger kid. One of the "Rory & Me" episodes on the second tape has the song, "Talk To The Animals" (I left that out.) which you can find on YouTube but you have to be VERY specific when searching. Also, one of the episodes had two segments from the "Dig and Dug with Daisy" series which again, I thought was original to "Rory and Me" but it wasn't. I kinda have a hard time telling if the narrator is British or Australian. It sounds more the latter to me.
The last video shows a BIT of "Rory's Place" which I didn't grow with.
One of the rare instances where I find information on "Rory and Me" is this Washington Post article from 1994: www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/tv/1994/08/28/rory-and-me/ba4c87f5-efd0-4999-a027-edc8a570602e/
The puppet, Reddy, was voiced my Stephanie D'Abruzzo, according to this article, who is known for voicing Prarie Dawn in Sesame Street and I decided to ask her on Twitter if she can confirm this and she SURPRISINGLY responded back giving me an answer that was a definite "YES." The article also gave me a bit of insight of why Rory didn't become so big. She just wanted to be there for her children which I think is pretty fair.
I apologize if my videos aren't the best quality nor volume. I recorded these on my TV from my iPad while I was sitting on the edge of my bed (You might hear some creeking.) and it was late at night which was the perfect time for me to do it without any distractions plus my parents were sleeping so I didn't wanna risk it being too loud. (Our rooms were close together.)
That's it, everybody! Consider me as the "Franky Claus" (My real name is Frank.) coming down the chimney with his bag containing some lost media that I'm giving out for the community. I hope this gains some traction. Oh, and if LSuperSonicQ has some free some, kinda let him know about this. (I already showed him the lost KidVision logo.) Have a good one!
