So there is this Minecraft YouTube movie that I remember watching around 2016 or 2017 (no later than 2018). I’ve been looking for this video for a while, but I haven’t had any luck. I’ve tried tip-off my tongue but so far no luck either. So I came here of course. By ‘Minecraft YouTube movie’ I mean that it was a recording in Minecraft that told a story and was uploaded to YouTube. Hopefully that suffices to get across the kind of thing I am talking about.
Anyways, the movie was quite long. If I had to guess, I’d say it was around 4 hours. The movie was split into several parts, and I remember the parts were made earlier, but were all compiled into a single cohesive film, as the stories were connected. Also, the film was entirely in first person point of view, and was recorded in real-time Minecraft.
it starts off with a man who wakes up in an abandoned city. The man clearly has no memory of who he is. He walks around until he meets another man who has a bow and arrows. After an initially apprehensive meeting, they decide to travel together, and they roam around the abandoned city as they exchange dialogue. You can clearly see nature has reclaimed the city, as there’s vegetation growing everywhere. In one scene, they use vines to climb up a skyscraper.
The two men then see a bandit and are attacked. This is where my memory starts to get a little fuzzy. Something happens that may or may not have been supernatural and the main character gets knocked unconscious.
The MC wakes up again, this time on a tropical island. He soon meets the same man from before, but I’m pretty sure they have no memory of each other. There is a temple on the island that holds some kind of secret, and the two men are incentivized to get there. However, they face multiple bandits on the island.
One of my most vivid memories of this movie is where they are climbing trees on the tropical island while ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ plays in the background.
After that, I am way less certain of the details. I think the MC did make it to the temple, but then wanted to escape the island because he found out he was in some kind of simulation or fake life similar to the Truman Show? I think the world was like encased in a glass dome and he ended up escaping it just like the Truman Show. And the world was controlled by a kind of supernatural entity, perhaps Herobrine? I don’t even know if it happened like that, I just have a vague feeling.
The MC eventually ends up in a village in a dark forest, and meets a man who I think doesn’t trust him, but from there I don’t remember anything else. I think I remember seeing on the creator’s channel that the movie was serving as a kind of prologue or recap and the ‘series’ continued more or less in the village, with the MC dealing with the villain who is the supernatural entity. I was under the impression that this entity was Herobrine, but after looking at many Herobrine-related Machinimas, I’m not too sure anymore. It may have been entity_303 or null, both of which were popular urban legends at the time. It may have also just been a character that was made for the movie/series. Whoever the supernatural entity character was, clearly they didn’t play a super big role in the story. The parts that stand out to me the most are abandoned city and the tropical island with the temple.
If anybody remembers seeing this or may have an idea of what it could be, let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
