A few months ago, I came across a FB Marketplace listing for an estate sale where everything was free. While I was there, I picked up a box of vintage Christmas decorations, and I found a VHS tape inside.
The tape is plain, in good condition, with "PARKE-DAVIS 1991 HOLIDAY SHOW" printed on the label.
I don't have a VHS player, so I can't play it, but I've dug around everywhere online and cannot find any record of such a show.
Anyone have any ideas, or does anyone want to watch a random holiday VHS tape and report back on the contents?
Hello, everyone! I am so sorry for how long it took to get back to this thread, but after buying multiple dud units at thrift shops, I FINALLY have a functioning VHS player and have been able to watch the tape.
The Parke-Davis 1991 Holiday Show is actually not a show, nor does it mention a holiday at all. Instead, it is approximately 15 mins' worth of B-roll footage and history about the Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical company, the achievements its staff completed throughout '91, and a congratulatory message for all of that year's retirees. They also showed each retiree's name, a photo, and the month and year each retiree started at Parke-Davis. The music backtrack is solely instrumentals.
It ends pretty abruptly with no credits, and I am confident that this was not made for any outside distribution beyond the company itself.
After some research, it looks like Parke-Davis was acquired by Pfizer in 2000, with their Ann Arbor, Michigan research facility closing sometime in 2007. I acquired this tape in Ann Arbor, so I would not be surprised if the person who originally owned it worked at that facility before its closure. Maybe they even were among the retirees honored in the video!
From here, I'm trying to figure out what is best to do with this footage. My first idea was to try to find the address of the estate sale again, and contact the family to see if they would like the tape back, or if it should be digitized and put on the Internet Archive. Since it was likely not meant to be public at all, I'd love to hear others' thoughts on where to go from here!
