Hello, I've been watching this site for a while but only now made an account. My apologies if this is in the wrong forum category, or if I made any mistakes! Lets get right into this.
I.. need some help. To put it simply, I own on VHS a copy of a KIND of lost Disney film. I'm saying kind of, because barely any in depth information exists on this movie from what I've seen. The movie is called Kidz in the woods, but also went by two other names. It was a straight to tv disney film in the 90s.
There's ONE upload of this anywhere on the internet, from my searches. It's on YouTube from 13 years ago and looks like it was poorly recorded from a phone, so unfortunately the quality isn't very good.
To keep it short, turns out someone in my family recorded it on vhs ages ago, and we have it in an insanely better quality capture. Here's where I need help, any at all because who I'm working with and I don't know what to do.
We have a VHS to file machine, and we're working on getting it uploaded to a computer file. But.. we don't know what to do after that.
My questions are as followed.
1) Where should we go about uploading this? YouTube in full was my first thought, but I'd also like to get this archived somehow so any help on how to do that would be nice since I have minimal knowledge of that sort of stuff. Would we get in trouble for uploading this to YouTube since it IS a Disney movie? Or is it obscure enough?
2) Should the upload contain the commercials + bumpers or should they be removed? Should we try to maks two copies, one with and without these?
3) The beginning of the film is missing a few minutes, and thanks to my VHS player that decided to eat a bit, the first 8 or so minutes are incredibly glitchy and pretty much unwatchable. Should we cut this beginning out entirely since it's pretty much useless with the glitches due to tape eating? The rest of the film is fine however.
3^2) it was suggested we stitch together our missing few minutes with the upload on YouTube? Is that a favorable idea?
4) The file it recorded in is an MPG File. We tried uploading it to a drive and such but it said it was too big. Attemps were made to convert it to MP4 but the sites said it was also too big. There was an option on the device to record in AVI, but upon trying to record that.. it made the quality drop like a brick and unwatchable. So we'd like to keep that same good quality + try and clean it up in editing after but we need help figuring out how to either convert it to a different file type or something else without losing the clear quality we were gifted to get.
5) Less important but what should we do with the VHS it's on? One of us wants to get rid of it but I'd like to keep it. Do you think it'd be worth anything monetary wise?
I think that's all for now, thank you incredibly much to anyone who is able to help. I'd love for this movie to get preserved in great quality, so your help with make that real. Have a good day everyone!
I'll try my best to reply to stuff as soon as I can.
