It doesn't seem like a huge deal to you and me, but apparently it caused panic attacks for people with serious anxiety and other mental conditions. Granted, that is a serious issue since it could pop up no matter what video you're on, so no type of content warning could let those people avoid it, but why those people couldn't just use Adblock, I do not know.
I agree wholeheartedly with what Nanis said. Well put.
Anyways, this ad is definitely real, there are tons of Tumblr posts warning people about it (even Markiplier got involved), and even a Twitter account that was dedicated to retweeting people complaining about it: twitter.com/reallyoutube I didn't find it, but I did find more screenshots (though they're from after the first 5 seconds):
It's weird how it could just drop off the face of the earth, you'd think somebody would have saved it. Here's a similar ad for something else though: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug9-bYrechQ Imo this one seems like it would be less scary to have pop up because if I wasn't specifically searching for it I probably wouldn't have even made the connection that the first few seconds are directed at the viewer.
It's working fine for me, maybe it's region-blocked/mobile-blocked or something. If it's not working for you just look up "The Avalanches - Since I Left You" and you should find it pretty easily (specifically the song, not the album it came from)
(bump i guess??) Super excited that The Avalanches are dropping a new album 1 month from now (after 16 years of absence), so I figured I'd come here to leave their 2 most acclaimed tracks for those who haven't heard of them:
Other than that, I've been really into this release lately:
(すてらべえ - Breakcore Never Die)
Been following this guy (Stellabee is his name in English) since I first heard his free net-release Breakcore Forever, which is also a very solid release that I'd definitely recommend (I initially just downloaded it because I liked the cover, but it unexpectedly blew me away). When I heard he was going to be releasing his first solo album and releasing it exclusively at a doujin fair in Japan, I knew I couldn't miss out on it, so I ended up scrambling a day before its release to get a guy who was going there to import it for me. A lot of stress but well worth it, it was just as great as I expected. Sadly, there's no place you can officially buy it as of right now, and none of it is on Youtube, but there's a crossfade sampler on Soundcloud, and while I won't link it here, let's just say you can find an unofficial download for the album in the usual places for doujin music. (Also, the artist said he might put it on Bandcamp at some point, if that ever happens I'll edit this to include the link)
Obviously it's a scam, but if it doesn't get taken down, I hope he at least has the decency to send SOMETHING to the winning bidder. Like, even a poorly-recorded episode of America's Funniest Home Videos with fart noises over it, ANYTHING would be better than just taking the money and running. Come on man. Surprise us.
Hey, the other day I wrote an article for The Trevor Moore Show. At the bottom of the page, I set up a gallery of 8 videos, showing all of the found clips. As you can see, on a computer, it looks fine:
On a mobile device, not so much...
Is there any way to fix this so it looks good on both?
Hey, I don't know FourScore64 personally but I am friends with some people who are friends with him, I'm on my phone right now so I can't really check everything posted here but if it turns out he has posted stuff that wasn't just from the video stewartisme linked, I could try to get in contact with him through some sort of relay method
If we do end up finding ADWSS, I don't think we should edit it at all. As long as we don't post the film on every website imaginable, people will know that it was discovered here and will come here to see it.
I would suggest uploading it as an unlisted video on the LMW YouTube channel and posting the link on this forum. Wait a month or so, then post the link on the LMW page. That way, the people who care enough to follow this thread will get to see it early.
If we do that, somebody else will find out about it and upload it themselves. Then it will be even worse, because they could reupload it and it would REALLY look like they were the ones who found it, since they'd be the only ones with a copy up, and also because even if we un-unlisted it, Youtube would set the publication date to be whenever we did that, not when it was actually uploaded. Please, please, PLEASE everybody just stop stressing out about this non-issue and trying to come up with "solutions". If we get a copy, we'll release it to the general public, unaltered, as is the goal of the wiki. I guarantee everybody who helped will get proper credit.
please don't do that. our end goal should be to get it released to the public in its completely unedited form. i frankly don't care if people dont know who found it as long as it's found
I do like the icons, and I'm glad you made the open canister a bit lighter since yesterday (which was something I was going to suggest but I guess you got to it first), but maybe you could make them even more light? It still takes a second for me to distinguish the difference between the two. Also, I don't know if this was a glitch or intentional, but the subforums always show the open canister even if there are unread messages. Also, I LOVE the drawing of LMW-tan and Trope-tan, great work!
