"Bomb Iran" (or some variation of it) is the title of many parodies of the 1961 song "Barbara Ann" by The Regents that began appearing following the Iran Hostage Crisis in November 1979. It isn't really a single song, since most versions have not only different styles, but different lyrics. The first such song was titled "Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Iran" and was recorded by a group known as The Baritone Dwarfs. It aired on the radio in Boston, Massachusetts in December 1979 and was later released as a single, presumably only locally. The most famous version was Vince Vance and the Valiants, which was recorded and played on the radio most likely in the first half of 1980, but death threats to the band delayed the single's release until September of that year. The song had a brief resurgence (and controversy) in the media in 2007, when presidential candidate John McCain started singing it during a campaign event in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, after an audience member asked him about potential military action against Iran.
At least five copyrights for other songs titled "Bomb Iran" were filed throughout 1980, though these may have only been sheet music or just lyrics. Now, Wikipedia mentions (and cites, though the source is a dead link) that the second "Bomb Iran" song was broadcast by KIXS-FM (now KGSR) in Killeen, Texas, for a single weekend in January 1980. However, no more information is given, such as who performed it, or if it had different lyrics, etc. I'm interested in this little curiosity. I hate it when we know something exists, but know nothing about it.
