I've been searching for The Little Green Planet Show online, but there seems to be a complete dearth of information - certainly none of the episodes, but also practically no screenshots, wiki article, people talking about it, anything!
The Little Green Planet Show was an educational children's puppet BBC show that ran for three seasons, I think of six quarter hour episodes each. Initially it was on in 1991-1994 on BBC 1 and BBC 2, but it was repeated on CBBC on Choice at some point around 2000. It features four "Telenauts" from the planet Zeus - I think they were mostly named after moons (Ganymede, Callisto and so on). They travel to Earth (or as they nickname it "the little green planet"), I think to make a documentary that airs back on their home planet. The series is very similar to the later series the Hoobs, with alien puppets interacting with humans to find out things about earth to report back home. It was focused mainly on science, carrying out science experiments and so on. According to BBC Genome some of the individual episodes focused on " Earth, environment and elevators", "time, temperature, thermometers and telephones", "grease, gravity, greenhouses and glue" and "fossils, filters, film and, finally, finale".
Unfortunately, almost nothing of the show seems to remain on the internet. For many years the only mentions were on puppeteers' websites, a brief listing on their CV saying they had performed in the show, and a mention on the composer and writer for the series' homepage. He also uploaded the title theme which he created - www.kjartan.co.uk/tvdemos/
Fairly recently, the entire opening credits were uploaded to the BBC Motion Graphics archive, and you can watch it here: www.ravensbourne.ac.uk/bbc-motion-graphics-archive/little-green-planet-show-1992 (someone has also mirrored this to youtube), along with some information about how the opening titles were created.
Other than that, the only clips of the show itself on the internet are some tiny segments from idents when the series was repeated on CBBC on Choice; here are some segments: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI3lh5TEvmw (the "Well, dibble my dobble!" is from The Little Green Planet Show), and here is one more snippet www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZagL0u-ahd4 (from a fandubbed version of the continuity).
Here are some of the puppeteer websites that mention working on the show: www.handsuppuppets.com/html/puppet%20makers.html , professorcrump.co.uk/filmtv.html , www.imdb.com/name/nm2496215/ , gillie.robic.co.uk/television , www.geofffelix.com/felixcv.html
I'm fairly certain that at one point one of the puppeteer sites had a showreel featuring some clips from the show, but I can no longer find it.
Oddly, getty images claims to have some clips (for example, www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/video/the-telenauts-from-planet-zeus-return-to-unearth-facts-news-footage/BBC_LCKT075N ) but it says they are part of the analogue archive, stored offline, and need additional fees to contact them and request the clips.
And... that's all the information I've been able to glean on the internet. Does anyone have any more leads? Does anyone else remember this show?
