"Eagle Sam" is a 1983 anime based off of the 1984 Los Angeles summer Olympics mascot "Sam the Olympic Eagle". The reason for this anime being produced a year before the actual olympics is because the character was actually created in 1980 and press material featuring him was already circulating to promote the olympics by late 82-early 83.
Now, what makes this interesting is it is an anime that was never broadcast outside of Japan that is wholly based on an American creation. All that remains is this single episode, it has been English subtitled but you can find the raw episode on dailymotion if you desire:
This is episode 23 out of 51 episodes! Surely there must be more Eagle Sam out there? I haven't been able to turn up anything other than some commercial promos, images of a press book and record, and a few screenshots that are NOT from this episode, most likely taken from old anime preview magazines. Heres the Japanese title: イーグルサム
Lost media like this is almost impossible to find. I don’t think the original master tapes were destroyed, but due to a number of factors, the copyright holders have decided not to release the anime through streaming or home video.
Trying to find the remaining Eagle Sam episodes without living in Japan would basically be impossible. My only thought is to look at Japanese auction sites for tapes that COULD have episodes on it, but even then, that’s like finding a needle in a haystack.
Anime like this is basically stuck in purgatory, sadly. The only instance I can think of where an anime in a similar situation was miraculously found was when the entire Chikkun Takkun series was uploaded on GyaO for a brief amount of time, was quickly taken down, but was thankfully recovered by an individual who downloaded every episode.

Dear lord, this is reminding me of Adam Gilmore's Mad on Commodore 64 quite a lot. Heck, with that "game", we don't know what it's for... assuming if those SID files were made for ANYTHING for that matter. Finding out more about Mad is just sheer dumb luck, & you know what, so is a lot of 60s, & perhaps some 70s, 80s, & 90s anime as well.
Ironic how those "all-American" Japanese-made media... don't always get an actual release in the USA. Metal Wolf Chaos had to wait almost decades before being officially localized there.

I assume it's because the Japanese think that many Americans might be offended in how they portray them. I mean, Japan has a pretty big history on racism there.

I somehow doubt that’s the reason. I wouldn’t consider silly American stereotypes with a talking eagle on par with hatred towards someone of a different race.
There’s probably an interesting story regarding why it never got brought to the US, but like with most obscure anime, none of that information is widely available to English readers. I’m sure a publication like Animage would have covered it during the time it was airing, though.

I have yet to see a Japanese-made potrayal of Americans that actually offended them... even in the more extreme cases, they usually tend to have Speedy Gonzales syndrome (stereotypical and over-the-top, yet beloved by the pictured group).

I guess that just happens because of their love for Japan, & how hilarious they are. However though, not EVERYBODY agrees on loving those portrayals.
