My rough, theorized timeline kind of goes as follows: 1989: Toon Platoon is written by Nat Mauldin and co. 1990: Toon Platoon is revised by Mauldin and co., presumably following Spielberg being displeased with the comical portrayal of Nazis following his work on Schindler's List. It is renamed Who Discovered Roger Rabbit. 1990-1997: Who Discovered Roger Rabbit is shelved. 1997: A rewrite commissioned, and is impressive enough Alan Menken joins the crew. 1998: Animation tests are done, with Eric Goldberg if memory serves. The animation tests go over budget, and the film's cancelled. 2008: "This Only Happens in the Movies," one of the lost Menken songs, is given new life on Broadway actress Kerry Butler's debut album. Late 2000s: Imagemovers Digital attempts a sequel. It's teased at in interviews/press here and there. 2011: Imagemovers Digital closes. 2013: The Stooge script is brought up, but doesn't go anywhere. late 2010s-present: According to a 2018 interview with Zemeckis, there's a sequel script somewhere at Disney, that they aren't interested in doing anything with.
Woof. That's honestly really fascinating!
Wow... Thats a lot more Rodger Rabbit stuff than I thought there was...
To be fair, none of it actually went anywhere. Which is kind of impressive in itself: imagine getting this many shots at a sequel, and absolutely none of them being completed! And of course, there're also, like, the two or three scrapped shorts, which I believe were another casualty of the Disney/Amblin relationship crumbling. So much for lucky rabbit's foot, huh?
Also, again, a lot of these are educated guesses or pieced together by things I've heard or read. Believe it or not, the most successful branch of this canon is actually the book series the original film is based on: it got two sequels I know of, the latter of which came out in 2013! Still a while back, but sooner than you'd expect, huh?

There's also a few lost/cancelled Roger Rabbit comic books. Both the main Roger Rabbit comic and Roger Rabbit's Toontown were both canceled due to the well known Disney Implosion for Disney Comics (where due to a lack of profit, all but three comics were cancelled). Due to its rather sudden closure, the comics were most likely in production, and at the very least, the full script and some artwork had been done.
"I Hate Toons" was intended to be a Roger Rabbit graphic novels, which would mix Roger and the destruction of famous landmarks.
Issue 19 of Roger Rabbit and Issue 6 of Roger Rabbit's Toontown were also in production, but were cancelled due to the Disney Implosion.
Oh my gosh, the comics! Nice find. I don't even know where you'd start with looking for those, but I guess we can just add this to the pile of all the Roger Rabbit lost media... but I loved the comics. They were neat the worldbuilding.

Oh yeah, long overdue, but I'm adding more of the stuff I can be certain of to the page on the Wiki, because that only covers things like the animation test and the scripts.

Okay, despite the Menken tracks not being found, I don't think I'm going to scratch out the "Found" status, because the 2 scripts are honestly more than I ever expected we'd get... and who knows, maybe the songs will get their own page one of these days. I don't know if they warrant one, but they might...?

Also, here's something I'm curious about: the second found script, WDRR, is a Nazi-free rewrite, but Spielberg's whole "no Nazis" thing came about as a result of Schindler's List. Schindler's List is from '93. WDRR is from 1990. Maybe it's a typo? Maybe it's left over from a Toon Platoon draft?
If anyone has any answers, that'd be nifty, because the timeline just doesn't make sense right now. @_@

A bit of an update regarding the lost Roger Rabbit comics... the comics "Pooched Pooch!" from the cancelled Roger Rabbit #19 and "Bringing Down Baby!" from the cancelled Roger Rabbit's Toon Town #6 actually did get released!
While the full issues were cancelled, these two comics were apparently finished, and because of this, they ended up being included in the Disney Adventures magazine! "Pooched Pooch" appeared in the December 1991 issue of Disney Adventures, and "Bringing Down Baby!" appeared in the January 1992 issue of Disney Adventures. While a good chunk of the Disney Adventures comics were reprints of stuff from the Disney Comics runs, they did have original stories made for them based on Roger Rabbit, and these two cancelled stories ended up being released through it.
Sadly, "Case of the Unrestful Catnap", "Goin' Bugs!", and "That was no Sale... That was a Steal!" were not released through the Disney Adventures magazine, meaning they are still lost. These comics being released through Disney Adventures makes me think that it's possible those three stories were completed, or at least had scripts and initial pencils done for them. "I Hate Toons" also remains completely lost.

Has anyone tried to extract images of the strips we see in the video? Like, with corrections to orientation and such. This is super interesting.
