okay, hi, this is a thread I've put off making for a while because there's just... a LOT to go off. I doubt most of this ever has a chance of being found, but hey. I think it at least deserves to be put in the archives as lost, because there's a lot of cool stuff.
I'm a big Roger Rabbit fan. So, sometimes I go digging. As I'm sure a lot of y'all know, a lot of potential content was thrown to the wind due to the titular hare's weird legal status as being partially owned by Disney and Amblin. At this point in time, I know of, uh. A lot. Shorts, scripts, some songs written by Alan Menken. And it's all lost, to my knowledge.
Let's get into it.
SHORTS:
I know there were, like, two or three shorts in varying levels of production that never got anywhere. They'd been slated to appear before certain films like the first three, but obviously, that didn't happen.
All we have right now is, like, this bunch of stills from the one that got furthest along: Waiter, There's A Hare In My Soup.
SCRIPTS:
Off the top of my head, I know of three scripts that have been brought up over the years. They're all prequel films, for the record.
TOON PLATOON: Apparently this script has been found? I read it, a while back. I don't know if it's 100% legit, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't be and people seem to have accepted it. It's kinda weird, not my favourite piece of the canon, but I like the twist where Bugs Bunny is Roger's dad. So points for that. If memory serves, this was rejected by Spielberg because he didn't want to do a Nazi comedy. Which is fair.
THE STOOGE: I know virtually nothing about this one. I have this image, and a few articles from years back when it was proposed. Apparently it was about Mickey and Roger trying to make it big.
THE. UH. THE ONE BASED OFF GOLDEN AGE HOLLYWOOD MUSICALS: I don't know if this one ever got a name? But apparently it was a thing. How do I know it was a thing? Well. That brings me to my third category...
THE LOST SONGS BY ALAN MENKEN:
Yeah, there're lost songs by Alan Menken. I remember reading it was like... three or four? Or something? Only one has been given any form of release: "This Only Happens In The Movies."
I've found two videos of it: one from Kerry Butler's album which featured both famous and previously unproduced Disney songs, and Menken himself performing it.
Anyways, yeah, all of this lives in my head rent-free. Enjoy.
