In 2004 when the first SpongeBob's movie came out, there was a Nick Magazine's special edition about the film. The magazine had many articles about series creation, trivias, posters, concept art and three comics based on the movie. However, this magazine was the Mexican version of Nick Magazine.
The first comic was about how SpongeBob and Patrick knew the Goofy Goober. It starts with Squidward going to a recital, but then he encounters with Bob and Pattrick. They look at the Goofy Goober being building, it's a new restaurant in Bikini Bottom. When the construction ends, Bob and Pattrick are fascinated with the ice cream and the Goofy Goobers. They are having fun, Squidward wants to eat ice cream too but he is rejected because he is an adult.
The second comic, and my favorite, is about Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. They are watching the TV when a Chum Bucket sponsor appears. The super-heroes was interesed about it and went to the restaurant. But the Bucket hats were activated and the fishes attacks the heroes.
The third comic was about Plankton and Mr. Krabs at the college.
I lost the magazine and I want to read it again. I don't know if the special edition was on the English version too, but I can't find anything on the internet
I know EXACTLY which magazine you're talking about, and there was an English version available, which I used to have around the time the movie came out. I don't have it anymore, but I do remember specific scenes that stick out the most. It's been years since I've read it, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate.
With the first comic, the plot was that the concert hall, where the concert was taking place, was demolished to make way for Goofy Goobers, with Squidward marching in to protest. However, he is unable to enter the restaurant for being a 'grown-up,' and is forced to wait in the 'Parent Room' with other parents while their children play in the restaurant. Realizing that he won't be able to address the management, he sends SpongeBob and Patrick to do the job for him, but the two fall in love with the restaurant and begin to have fun. At the end, SpongeBob and Patrick give Squidward a toy clarinet that they won as a prize, and both he and the other parents put on a concert of their own using 'instruments' that they happen to have.
I don't quite remember too much about the MermaidMan & BarnacleBoy comic, though I do remember a scene where MermaidMan attempts to communicate with one of the mind-controlled fish by speaking in another language, chirping like a bird, and even offering hard candy. While BarnacleBoy realizes something is wrong, MermaidMan is brainwashed by one of Plankton's helmets, and the story ends with BarnacleBoy heading back home to watch TV, deciding not to save the day.
I don't really remember the third comic, and being that I lost my copy of the comic back in 2005, I'm really just guessing some of these scenes. However, I'd love to see these comics again, and I wish you the best of luck in tracking down a copy!
I have the comics from the mag, (English version) i'll have to go dig them out. From what I remember, there was also a comic about king neptune getting a haircut. And one about fish's limbs falling off, with king neptune not letting mindy help them. (Didn't realise this was lost lol)
