Okay to preface.
Every since I was a kid In the mid to late 2000s I remember my dad used to read me these scary stories out of this large anthology book.
What I remember distinctly about this book was it was much larger than normal books and was hardback with an illustrated sleeve. I think it was a dark cover maybe blue/black but I could be wrong about the color scheme. There were also illustrations to go along with the stories in the book.
I remember vividly one of the first stories was about this man that encounters a boy at night in the middle of a road. I think in the story the man gave the boy his jacket because the boy was cold (that could be wrong) but I believe it was something like that. But the thing I remember most of all was that in that story there was an illustration of the boy in a purple jacket and it was VERY creepy. It was nighttime and the boys skin was a blueish color.
Now before anyone says anything I am pretty sure it wasn’t one of those scary stories to tell in the dark books. I havent been able to get my hands on one of them to look definitively but from my research I did online I am pretty sure it isnt it.
That reminds me of a story I read in a book about “scary campfire stories” or something like that.
Anyways the story is about a truck driver who sees a girl all shaking and wet on the road at night so he picks her up and gives her his jacket to keep warm. He asks her where she lives and she tells him. She disappears before he gets in the house though and the girls mother greets him as he notices a picture of the girl on the wall. The girls mother explains that the girl died in a car crash on the way home from a party years ago and that she tries to find her way home on the anniversary of her death every year. The mother tells the truck driver she’s buried in the cemetery he passed earlier and when he goes to visit her grave he finds his jacket on top of the tombstone.

Slight update:
I’m not sure if this will help but I also remember there being a very short story in the inside cover of the book. It was written like a poem I remember something about a noise upstairs and there was no one there?
If anyone please has anything regarding this please let me know! It’s been driving me crazy!

Another update: Hey guys I still haven't been able to find this book however I do have some new information. The short poem about "a noise upstairs" I believe is actually called Antigonish by William Hughes Mearns, this is a link to it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antigonish_(poem)
If anyone has any information on the books please let me know!
