Ever since I was little my grandfather would always talk about how he won two singing competitions back in the late 1950's when he was still living in the Philippines.
The two shows he mentioned were Tawag ng Tanghalan (currently airing as TNT) and Student Canteen. Though I am aware that footage of these shows exist, I am specifically trying to find the episodes that my grandfather was in.

Here is all the information I have about the specific episodes:

Student Canteen:
• Appeared in the 1958 season (his name is Rufino Mercado and he was 18 years old at the time)
• Sang "You Are My Everything" and "The Man Who Played The Mandolino"
• Originally aired on channel CBN (now ABS-CBN)

Tawag ng Tanghalan:
• Appeared in the 1959 season
• Sang "The Man Who Played The Mandolino", "Carmelita", and "Sway"
• He beat Rufina Esperancilla that year, but she ended up being the season champion the following year in 1960
• Originally aired on channel DZAQ-TV (now DWWX-TV)

I know this doesn't impact a wide net of people, but if anyone can help find this footage my entire family would be extremely appreciative.

ABS-CBN (where the episodes of the shows you speak of aired) may no longer have copies of said shows. In a Philippine Supreme Court case, ABS-CBN alleged:

During a military inventory in 1979-1980, and a visit by ABS-CBN executives at ABS-CBNs radio transmitting stations in Meycauayan, Bulacan, headed by petitioner Augusto, on August 13, 1984, ABS-CBN properties and massive equipment were found to be missing. In addition, the musical records and radio dramas accumulated by ABS-CBN in a span of twenty-five (25) years and stored in its library were now gone.

This was a consequence of the closure of ABS-CBN from 1972 to 1986, as a result of martial law. Most likely, its television archives are also lost.

You may try asking Jojo Bailon of View on the 3rd if he has a copy of the episodes you speak of. Good luck.
