IKR. The dvd covers designed by bootleggers can be really funny and absurd sometimes.
My personal favourite was a bootleg of Adam Sandler's jack and jill, which used a poster image that said "coming soon", as if it wasn't already on the DVD in the case, and one of Dumb and Dumber, which was randomly covered in neon green and sparkly stars all over.
I didn't buy either of them. On a side note, I found hundreds at a carboot sale recently, but literally all of them were boring action movies nobody would have known anyway.

I only really get movies I don't already have unless it's something really obscure.

My main media collecting focus is bootleg cassettes. I have literally thousands of them. I even did my leaving cert history project about them. I tend to avoid DVDs because I focus on vintage items almost exclusively, and for the most part, have no interest in their contents, plus they are so absurdly common, it makes them less intriguing to me.
If anybody cares, my best bootleg cassettes are a live concert recording of The Waterboys (the only known recording of that concert, never been online) and a bootleg of The Beatles demo tape when they tried to get signed to Decca records as "The Silver Beatles"

I got my fair share of tapes too, some with some legit lost media on them.

I happen to possess a bootleg version of The Incredibles, wherein the subtitles occasionally display 'Property Of Disney Do not Redistribute.' This leads me to suspect it might have been ripped from a screener copy, which is rather intriguing when you consider it.
I have an extremely high quality bootleg my dad got me of the complete collection of SouthPark back in 2007-2008 from Afghanistan. It had all the seasons and the movie but instead of the movie it had the special edition DVD version of the Imagination Land TV episodes. The box looked real and the discs showed real artwork too. The Imagination Land DVD even showed the Movie DVD artwork. If I ever find the box set again I'll show it.

This is the kind of stuff I love: I have several bootleg DVDs myself, none really interesting, but there are some wild ones that I've seen or heard of before. One could imagine what it'd be like if by some absurd miracle, a bootleg DVD containing various episodes of the Creative Products English dub of Akazukin ChaCha surfaces at some point. The episodes & clips we have already tell me that it's a WILD RIDE.
Not a bootleg but I was reminded of the days when bands would release music online but put an audio watermark every so often to tell you to buy the full album. My dad has a bunch of HammerFall CDs of these versions. Halfway through you hear "this is so and so from HammerFall and you're listening to this song from our new album, Chapter V" or whatever. Actually, I borrowed a CD from him recently and it turned out to be this version so I didn't listen to it haha. The moment in the song that gets talked over is kind of burned into my mind for some of these songs because as a kid I'd listen to them anyway.

Should someone make a bootleg CD thread or, better yet, a general bootleg media thread, or nah?

Strange to reply to my post... The first sentence says that I'm not talking about a bootleg (or anything lost), just something I was reminded of...

Yes, or even better, a general bootleg anything thread, I have a vintage toy collection, of which I actively pursue bootlegs, I'd love to be able to share all of my bootleg VHSs and cassettes.... if only I could send images...

I say we can use this thread for that.

Dutch Popeye The Spinach Planter bootleg dub VHS, it is dreadful. The dub seems to have been done by one or two guys, meaning every single voice, including the female characters, are the same. Also, the audio quality of the dub sucks so bad and the original audio constantly bleeds through. It features other classic cartoons too, which I think might be public domain, unlike Popeye.
