Something you Love/Hate that everyone else doesn't

I don't hate it, but I saw Hamilton (finally) and I just...don't get it. But I'm not a musical person in general so that's likely part of it. Maybe it gets better on rewatches.

This is something I wanted to get off of my chest for a while, and I'm glad this thread exists.

I really hate Harry Potter, mainly because I'm not interested in witches and wizards, and its omnipresence in pop culture has really become annoying over time.

But another big reason is this: I have had A LOT of toxic interactions with Potterheads. I will clarify that I've also been friends with several of them. That being said,  our friendships stemmed from our environment (mutual activities like a scout troop or summer camp, etc.). We all agreed it was best to leave "the wizard" out of our conversations (lol). However, I'd have to say my interactions with Harry Potter fans in general have usually been a poor experience. Most of the time, they would be in confused disbelief that I wasn't interested in Harry Potter. It was unnecessarily difficult and annoying to explain that no, I did not, in fact, give a flying rip what Hogwarts house I was supposed to be sorted in. 😅

Then, there would be this "uppity" vibe many would give off if I voiced this hot, hot take of mine (lol). Suddenly, I was the scum of the earth because I wasn't "intelligent" or "cool" enough to see that "Furry Flower-planter" was the sum of all wisdom and culture. I won't lie. As someone who's a bit socially inept to begin with, it hurt to be told I didn't "fit in".

By the way, I don't intend to offend anyone, and I apologize if I do. I don't like to generalize a fandom like that. I've been part of a fandom that's been generalized as cringy (recovering Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fan, lol; if you know, you know 🙄). But many times I've "brushed shoulders", so to speak, with the Harry Potter fandom have been draining and uncomfortable. I wanted to share this in the hopes that someone will understand. Forgive me if I do offend. It was truly unintentional.

I hope any of this made sense.

That's how I feel about Five Nights at Freddy's, unbelievably toxic fandom that I want nothing to do with(Steven Universe also has a shockingly toxic fandom that makes me glad I never got into the show)Scott Cawthom turning out to be a bigoted piece of shit(along with several FNAF fans) makes me very glad I didn't get into it.

Also never found Monty Python funny and after Cleese and Gilliam both revealed themselves to be bigoted assholes in later years i'm legitimately happy I was never a fan of it.

Also despise most Oscar bait movies like Titanic and The Artist in general.

For video games i've never been into Undertale, the gameplay isn't for me and the meta-stuff just does not do anything for me. Also Assassins Creed franchise never grabbed me.

Also never got much out of Avatar(the movies or the animated series).

I despise the Ring and Grudge remakes and i'm baffled at how anyone could ever find them scary. Also HATE the Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Conjuring franchises with a passion and wish they would all die already.

For TV shows I personally never got what the big deal about LOST, Mad Men and Game of Thrones was, they all just bored and annoyed the piss out of me.

Yeah I pointed this out on another thread but I have found that I just CAN'T get into Harry Potter, and I think one of the main reasons (besides the fact that I simply read them at too old an age and for the possible "wrong reason") that I CAN'T get into them is that the writing simply isn't THERE, I can't really explain WHY but something about it kind of reminds me of like George Lucas when he did the prequels-namely, good storyteller does NOT always equal good writer.

Yet Potterheads act like these books are dang Lord of the Rings in writing quality, not just a fun time, but like high art literature. Yes, I know the allusions and vocabulary of Harry Potter are good but beyond that, what IS there? I knew people who did the whole shebang-midnight release parties, trivia parties, Pottermore, endless cosplays/cons/events, etc. and yes, they could be as obnoxious as OP is saying here, and like OP, that too was a turn off for me. 

I could read Lemony Snicket's works over and over, His Dark Materials holds up quite well-meanwhile, the writing in Harry Potter just feels bland to me, the themes uninteresting, the characters can be interesting but so often aren't IMO. I OWN the books and I have read them exactly once in my entire life. 

Ursula Le Guin was making this point like over 20 years ago about why she herself just couldn't be a Potterhead, and that was long before the waves of internet criticism that we've seen in the past 5 years.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the design of the show and the work ethic of the people involved. 
Too bad I don't love anything else about the show. 

Eh, it’s somewhere in the middle for me

He isn’t bad (he’s godly compared to Hans) but he isn’t great either, he’s kinda mid
I just think his motivations are a bit wack, he was a poor twist villain, etc
