I don't exactly remember how, but a while ago I heard about Safeway airing commercials in the Philadelphia, PA area apologizing for changes they made to Genuardi's, a family-owned supermarket chain they had purchased in 2001. Here is one of the articles that reported on this, but you can find others on Google as well. According to that article, Safeway aired the ads in print and on television and the radio.
There's also this article from a few days later, which includes some lines from "one version of the ad":
“Despite our best intentions, not all of the changes we've made recently have gone smoothly, and we're sorry if your Genuardi's experience was affected. But now, with so many good things happening at your Genuardi's, we'd like to invite you back.”
However, I can't seem to find any of these commercials online. I would be pretty interested to see these, as someone interested in both lost media and retail and who also lives in the area where Genuardi's operated. I would certainly be happy to hear anything you may find!
