The search for season 1 of “ZOOM”, despite my attempts to get the word out, has proved to be frustratingly slow, and there’s no indication that GBH is going to change their policy about viewing the episodes.
So I think a more helpful approach would be to specifically track down PBS Kids recordings from 1999. Season 1 aired consistently throughout that year (being the only season at the time), and while it did also air in 2000 and 2002, it was for much shorter periods of time. So 1999 is definitely the year we should try to track down PBS Kids recordings if we want a decent chance of finding even one missing episode.
While we’re looking for recordings from 1999, I should mention there’s another PBS Kids rarity from this time that people should keep a lookout for. Supposedly there’s a lost version of the Zoboomfoo funding credits that was only used at the end of the episode, with an alternate version of the Healthtex promo. VHS releases of the show never included the funding credits, and the only recordings from 1999 of the show’s fundings are the opening fundings (with the commercial of kids playing in the mud). The closing ad supposedly features kids playing on a swing set, so if there’s a Zoboomfoo recording with something like that at the end, it’s super-rare.
So again, it’s recordings from 1999 that will most likely lead to this stuff being found.
