There’s some lost media that is stuck with me right now. There was a short interstitial on Kids CBC that aired from 2007-2012 called See the Sea. It showed underwater animals and their descriptions, teaching viewers about underwater life. They also made them have human voices. I remember a bit of the lyrics to the theme song: “Come see the sea! Let’s see what we can see…”
I remember the music in the show having chimes and bells, Little Mermaid-like instruments, and steel drums. One particular bit is that when a false fact is mentioned: there was a part where they had to stop the show and rewind the footage. This had kids say: “Stop the show! Rewind!”.
I don’t remember the other half of the theme song, but the last lyric was “Who…are…they?”. And, the credits. There were 2 other lyrics: “Come see the sea, just you and me!” This line repeated once. After this, a copyright notice appeared in the bottom, and a woman in a scuba gear approaches the screen and waves at the camera. She then snorkels away from the screen.
WHAT I KNOW SO FAR:
In 2018, I contacted someone at CBC if they have footage. Instead they said, they no longer have the right to air it. I told them that it’s not on the internet. They said “this includes any online offerings”. Someone later managed to find a Polish version of the intro, aired on JimJam Poland in 2011.
A lot of people remember this as well, like me. It is still stuck with me right now, probably the biggest find I have for 5 years.
Just now, I stumbled upon a Reddit user named u/devilmaycare_, who is also trying to find the show in a post.
A few months later I stumbled upon the program with a picture from the show on CBC’s Program Guide. The description said:
This exciting series provides viewers with a glimpse of featured undersea creatures as they interact in their native marine environment to achieve their basic needs.
Each episode introduces young onlookers to the behaviours of a featured underwater creature and its relationship with other marine wildlife. Fun character voices are used throughout each episode to give human attributes to the undersea creatures.
A few months ago in 2022, I came across the music composer of the show, also created and wrote the show, Lesley Sutherland. I couldn’t find any contact information.
I also came across the photographers of the show, Hugh and Debra Beard, no contact information either.
Does anyone have this show or remember it? Let me know.
