Earlier today I randomly remembered a short-lived television show that aired years back. I don't remember it's name at all, but it was a live-action/CGI animated TV show that was about a group of high school students that went into a virtual video game world to fight an evil villain.
And before you ask, no, it was not Code Lyoko, while it had a rather similar premise, the show was very short-lived and lasted only one season that was about 12 episodes or so, possibly shorter, while Code Lyoko lasted about 4 or 5 seasons.
To narrow things down, this is all I remember:
- The show aired sometime between 2004 and 2010. If I remember right it was on either Toon Disney's Jetix block or on Nickelodeon
- It was a live-action/CGI hybrid show
- It was about a group of middle/high school students that went into a video game world to fight an evil villain.
- The live-action segments were in the real world and the CGI segments being in the virtual world. It definitely wasn't Code Lyoko because that entire series was 100% animated with the real world segments being 2D animated and the virtual world CGI.
- The show lasted only one season (EDIT: It lasted three seasons, I got this one wrong)
- The CGI segments weren't very good. To give you an idea, they looked like a PS2/Xbox cutscene. Perhaps it was to add to the "video game" feel.
- The game world was sci-fi themed and all the characters wore full-body armor when in the game world.
If anyone can find what this show was, please feel free to tell me.
UPDATE 2/13/2017: I have finally found the show, it is called "Zixx" and it aired on Cartoon Network in the US (at a time when live-action didn't air on the network) and YTV in Canada, and it was indeed a live-action/CGI show with almost all the details I mentioned above being accurate, other than the show apparently lasted 3 seasons and not one, so that was the only detail I got wrong. It was produced in Canada and the CGI was done by Mainframe Entertainment (now known as Rainmaker Entertainment), most well known for ReBoot and Beast Wars. Here is an image of what the show looked like:
I'd like to thank everyone for helping me find this show. I'd like to thank GQ especially because his post mentioning 2030 C.E. (another Canadian live-action show) led me to finding this. Thank you everyone!
