I think I might have a solution to a problem a lot of people have with YouTube's recommendations where they keep getting recommended a lot of stuff that is really popular but they don't care about. I'm not sure if it's effective, but I'd love to see other people try it out and see how it works for them. I am basing the possible validity of this advice on the fact that I reboot my watch history every few months and I often use YouTube in a slightly different way whenever I do so.
Basically, my idea is to only click on the recommendations bar if you enjoyed the video you watched. If you don't care much for it, go back to the home page.
I tried this for a while, and I remember my recommendations were more targeted specifically to me and had fewer views.
One thing to keep in mind is that, even though I often change my viewing method from time to time, there is one thing that has stayed the same. And that is that I don't watch YouTube signed in. So I don't comment, subscribe, like, or any of that stuff. I'm not sure how signed-in watching would affect this.
I'd love to hear back from you on this.
Complaining about something is not the same as being surprised about it
