I know I haven't exactly been active on this place for a couple of years now. Getting into college and being in the midst of a global crisis tends to shake up your routine a lot. But what matters is, the preservationist spirit this site and forum instilled in me has not waned. I think it's about time I started a little project of my own, gave a piece of media the attention and credit it deserves.
So, you all know Toy Story, right? The first ever fully CG feature film, the movie that changed the course of animation as we know it? Cool, figured. But who here knows about its runner-up, a movie that released theatrically only 6 months after Toy Story? A movie that entered development around the same time as it, and may have even released sooner if not for a catastrophic computer failure? I present to you, from 1996, Cassiopeia.
Cassiopeia began production in 1992, and was released in April 1996, only half a year shy of Toy Story. It may have even released earlier, if not for some of the machines being used to work on the movie being stolen halfway through production. The story is rather simple. The planet of Atenéia is under threat by the armade of a villainous alien known as Shadowseat. Four robots, Chip, Chop, Feel, and Thot (no, I'm not making that up) spring into action and venture across the galaxy to defeat Shadowseat and save Atenéia. But this story is not the reason I have stepped forward to ask for your help.
As you can see above, the entire movie has been up on YouTube since 2011. However, the only available captions are the automatic ones provided by YouTube, which do a less than stellar job at articulating what the characters are saying. I tried translating it using its auto-translate system, but about half the dialogue was utterly incomprehensible. Thus, I am proposing a project to give this movie a proper English translation, something it has not received since its 1996 release, as far as I know. And this is where you come in.
I am looking for anyone with a proficient knowledge of Brazillian Portugese to step up and aid in this project. You don't have to be a native speaker, so long as you speak it well, or are willing to learn it. But even then, we need people searching for proper subtitles to the movie. The faster we can procure a proper subtitle track, the quicker we can make an accurate translation. If this project gains traction, I may ever consider starting work on a dub of the movie. But that's all in the future, of course.

This movie is very significant in the early history of CGI animation, and it is an absolute shame it has been so neglected and ignored by the community at large. Second place may be the first loser, but I believe a movie like this coming out of a developing nation like Brazil so soon after Toy Story is something that deserved respect.
