Historical Children's Picture Books With Weird Art Style

When I was a kid, there were these picture books (possibly a series?) that were supposed to teach American history to kids. More specifically, they were supposed to teach about a particular person from American history, like their life, the things they did, their impact, etc. I remember one of these books was about Abe Lincoln, and the other was about Martin Luther King Jr. Both of which were made by the same artist/author. They had a very generic title, like "The Life Of Martin Luther King" or "The Life Of Abraham Lincoln", which makes them pretty hard to Google search.
The one thing I remember most about these books was their strange art style. The pictures were done in oil paint and a very stylized way of drawing the humans. The one distinct feature of this style was that every character had their arms positioned in this half-up "robot arms" pose.
To the best of my abilities, this is my recreation of that art style.
