ADWS is funny cause I had no interest in it early on but when the search started kicking up and all the weird info surrounding the 'creators' came to light I definitely got invested. I'll admit I'm not a fan of the Kickstarter being done though.
Yeah, I will admit that the shady aspects of the company added some extra mystery to the whole thing. I guess, I just always had a sixth sense that the thing was a phony almost from the beginning, which prevented me from taking it too seriously. I wanted to know more about the company and stuff, but I knew we were never going to find the film
Agreed. I wasn't registered on the forums yet at the time, but I was into ADWS a while before it was found to not exist.
No offense personally to anyone who was involved in this search, but that whole thing with the stupid Wii software disc made me roll my eyes. It's so recent and so obviously in Nintendo's possession, and in any case who cares even if it isn't? It's not even really media, it's like hunting for old TV instruction manuals or something.
I think it's important and interesting to track down information on beta versions of games that ended up being released, but I think it should be a low priority. Especially so when we already have one, but some uber-obsessed-fanboy insists that there's some OTHER version that we just have to find.
I agree with Bumpers in most cases. I am a huge 90s Nickelodeon fan, and consider most of those bumpers to be both holy relics of my childhood and inventive little works of art in their own right. But even those I consider low priority, and some of the other random bumpers people are apparently dying to find make me shake my head. The Squidward astrology bumpers being a very good example.
Somewhat agree on the Youtube stuff. It's a terrible shame that such great content goes missing more often than you would think. Im always shocked when I browse through my Favorites page all the videos that have been deleted since I last checked it. But really, there's nothing we can do about it. And in most cases, it's nothing particularly good or worthwhile to culture/history anyway. Like, Armake21 was a person whose videos Id listen to as I did homework years ago and it's sad some of his videos are gone forever. But Im not gonna cry about it. There's better content to waste my time with.
Agree 100% on subs/dubs. As long as the original anime or foreign film is preserved, I dont even consider these to be lost media. If there are subtitles but not a dub, read the subtitles--it won't kill ya. And vice versa. If none exists, maybe take the time to write a translation yourself or start a kickstarter to pay someone to, IDK. It's even worse when the search is for some obscure language, like say a Finnish dub.
That whole "A Day with Spongebob" thing actually kinda pissed me off, especially since it was obvious almost from the beginning that it was a fake movie. Even if it HAD been made, it was obviously going to suck and wouldn't even be the "real" spongebob. I just didn't get the mass appeal. And now we have people clamoring for a kickstarter to get the movie made and for me it's like "are you guys for real???" It was never made, and if it ever does get made it's going to suck. Let it go.
It's a shame, because I think if all the effort that's been expended searching for useless crap like all the above had gone into something worthwhile we could have saved some really important things. I think our focus on recovery should go to lost films where no known print exists, lost ancient texts (Ab Urbe Condita for example), obscure old TV shows and things like that. I know politics is boring to a lot of people, but I'm really astounded by the amount of missing debates/speeches and the complete lack of acknowledgement of this fact anywhere online!

I support your opinion. Especially the last paragraph. We need to cover lost debates. They were so big at the time in history and most faded away to the point that we can't see them anymore. But, eventually, it'll resurface somehow. I'll search for lost debates if you or someone else starts a thread. I'm not that type of person to start a thread with very tiny information.
