Book about monkey who dies horribly in a forest fire

Yes, this was a real book, and it's been seared in my mind since I was a child.
So my mom had a collection of old picture books when I was a kid, and this was a part of it. This information is important because the collection was seperate from the books I had as a kid. This means that while I read it in the mid 2000's, the book was more likely printed anywhere from the late 70's to early 90's.
The book was a picture book following a collection of jungle animals. One day, they smell smoke. The parrot flies up and finds that the jungle is on fire! So they run around warning the other animals. When they get to the monkey, he brushes them off, paranoid that they are trying to trick him into leaving the tree he's in, which is full of bananas that he wants for himself. I think the return one or two times? But as the fire closes in, they have no choice but to leave him, because he's still insisting they want to steal his bananas. The animals rush off to find a safe location, the hippo (?) complains the smoke is making his nose run, the deer responds that the smoke makes her feet run, the deer was my favourite character despite having only one line, this trend of growing attached to incredibly unimportant characters would continue as my life carries on.
Anywas, the animals hide in a cave or behind a boulder or something and survive. The monkey, still in the tree, dies and the last we see of him is his vague sillouette in the tree with the glow of the fire behind it.
Also I think this was a christian book, I can't remember if the characters mentioned something, or it had a bible quote, or a moral segment, or just had the general vibe but it's possible it was a christian publisher.
Any help would be appreciated. I recently found another book I couldn't remember the name of, and it's given me hope!
