I believe that the main reason it flopped was due to it airing less than a year after the infamous tiger incident to Roy of Siegfried and Roy. Just bad timing overall. I seem to recall hearing about how expensive it was too. I found it refreshing to have a cartoon about animals aimed at a more mature audience and be well written for once.

I guess they thought a cameo by Donkey would appeal to the viewers? But they also had a star studded cast such as John Goodman, Cheryl from Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc. I think if it had aired a few years earlier, it would've been a smash hit. And maybe on a different network such as FOX would've helped too.

I really need to get ahold of either the DVD (but I heard they have 1 or more episodes missing) or hunt down some old home made VHS recordings so I can enjoy this forgotten series again!

Wow, I completely forgot about the tiger incident. That probably played a role too.

I remember FoTP came HOT off Shrek 2's momentum and such. I would be interested to know how it would fare had it aired in a different time other than 2004-maybe it was just too ambitious, especially considering the hefty budget? Maybe the humor just didn't click with and/or find the right audience? Maybe people wanted a more Dreamwork-sy experience, like in their family films? Doubt internet piracy played too much of a role since it was 2004 and internet video was still mush. Who knows. Maybe it will find a newer audience in the future like other shows have

Oh, yeah, and it was NICE to see an animated show aimed at an older audience that didn't look butt-ugly LOL.

my personal "nobody cares" show is ballmastrz: 9009. i see it talked about offhandedly, but its largely forgotten in the sea of other adult swim shows. i really like it, though. it was created by christy karacas who co-created superjail (another huge fave of mine) & it really scratches the itch i got from what little existed of the twins' sci-fi stuff in superjail.

others include: corneil & bernie, catscratch, sabrina the animated series, rude dog & the dweebs, and the animals of farthing wood. i liked foxbusters too, but i havent seen too much of it.

Really liked the Sabrina animated series, it aired weekday mornings (I think) on now defunct station UPN where I lived and I even mentioned the catchy theme song in another thread here!

Animals of Farthing Wood is one that is perpetually on my "to watch" list it seems. I love Watership Down and other animal based media and I really need to get around to it. Don't believe it ever aired on any channels here in the states, and not sure if it even got any sort of home media release here either.

As for Father of the Pride I think people just weren't ready to see 3-D CGI animation meant for adults, there was just something about seeing Dreamworks designs on crude humor that rubbed people the wrong way, there's a reason most adult cartoons are in 2-D these days as 3-D CGI as typically seen to signify kids/family films. That's why things like the DC animated movies are all in 2-D, to separate themselves from other animated works. I like FOTP fine but I can see why the notion of adult CGI cartoons never quite caught on, plus the show came out shortly after that infamous lion attack on Siegfried and Roy so some people might not have felt comfortable watching a cartoon featuring them and animals played for laughs.

For 90s cartoons Savage Dragon(based on the Image comic series by Eric Larson) tends to get overlooked, it only finally got a digital release recently, same with Wild Cats(based on Jim Lee's comic of the same name).

For adult animated series Stroker and Hoop is crazy underrated, brilliant show, shame it got screwed over. Also Good Vibes and Friday the Animated Series.

I agree, people likely weren't ready for that sort of CG-based material on a weekly basis, I think Youtuber Saberspark covered another similar failed "mature animated 3D program" that like aired on TechTV or Scifi or something in the early 00s, which too flopped hard, the animation just wasn't something people were used to then. I could see the 3D animated crude humor not being to multiple tastes as well, since the original Dreamworks movies did (and still do) a great job of appealing to everyone by making "adult" jokes subtle, clever, and veiled. Not saying it's a bad thing to have openly crude humor, but it's not for everyone, much less in the 3D animated genre that was almost exclusively aimed at a family audience in the mid 2000s.

HOL UP, there's an "American/Americanized" version of Farthing Wood? Where???!!!!

Never heard of Stroker and Hoop, I'm on something of an Adult Swim binge (I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was growing up, and even well into my adult years) so I should add it to the list!

Apparently that tape is pretty rare so it's lucky someone uploaded it.

I never knew there was an American version of The Animals of Farthing Wood, interesting. My dad was a fan of the original UK series, as was I back at the time it first aired and he would come home from work just to watch it. I am sure I had a magazine series based on the show.

Is Akazukin ChaCha one of those shows that has a big following in East Asia (and/or parts of Europe) but basically none in the USA, similar to Baby and Me, Ashita no Nadja, or UFO Baby? I remember being quite surprised when I lived over there and it turns out that many people were big into "family anime" like Chibi Maruko Chan, which the average American otaku would have no clue about.

Yes. I do like Sabrina though, but it was inconsistent even at its best and the college years were awful. I still remember how they backstabbed the audience with this one cliffhanger about Harvey finding out Sabrina is a witch and then in the next episode (and season) shes already broken up and over him, suddenly going to college. That really angered me as a kid

My first exposure to Sabrina was actually season 7 so I actually have nostalgia for the WB college seasons for that reason, didn't catch the high school years until later and I didn't see that breakup episode until the DVDs came out so I didn't get that wounded sense of betrayal myself but I can see why others weren't a fan of how it was handled. Season 4 was kind of a mess overall, it's honestly my least favorite season due to no Valerie or Libby, Dreama not being that interesting(with her story arc of Sabrina being her mentor completely abandoned later in the season for whatever reason)and Brad is the single worst character in the entire show with his whole stupid witch-hunter-gene nonsense easily being the dumbest storyline in the entire show(especially considering how easily it gets resolved near the end)his introduction is super clumsy too(I generally don't like when shows that have been on for years randomly introduce me some "best friend" from the past who has never once been mentioned or hinted at before). I'll defend the college years on my deathbed for being a vast improvement over season 4 as Roxy, Miles and Morgan were infinitely more interesting then Dreama and Brad ever were and overall it felt like a natural evolution to the show talking more mature topics. Josh was one of the few bright spots in season 4 with him helping bridge the gap between high school and college so I was glad he stuck around, I did miss him in season 7 but after hearing Aaron's storyline of being left the altar was originally supposed to be Josh part of me was glad he didn't show up as that would've been kind of cruel to his character.

Anyways speaking of The WB i've been on a bit of a kick with it's lesser known shows lately such as Do Over, Run of the House, the 2002 Family Affair remake, Nicki, For Your Love, Like Family, All About the Andersons, Movie Stars, Kirk, Brotherly Love, Zoe Duncan Jack and Jake, Raising Dad, Modern Men, Maybe it's Me, Twins, and My Guide To Becoming a Rock Star. I'm not seeing a lot of people talking about any of those shows.
