ive been following lost media stuff for a while and its something that always intrigued me, but ive never really gotten involved in searches or had my own bit of lost media i know of that hasnt been found yet, at least not till now.
there was this youtube video i saw back sometime around 2017 - 2018, it showed up in my recommended a few times before i actually clicked on it and watched it, so it might have been one of those weird videos that gets circulated through the algorithm once and never seen again, or possibly deleted/privated, no idea. it was a supposed "gamecube easter egg" that was hidden somewhere in a debug menu, accessible through the startup menu/BIOs of the gamecube. the easter egg was obviously a fan made type of deal and wasnt real, but was still quite interesting and a bit creepy to watch either way. i equate it to something like the "every copy of sm64 is personalized" genre of videos, but before that was a thing.
the title of the video itself was something like "weird gamecube easter egg" or "(insert person at nintendo)'s easter egg in gamecube" and the description had a tiny bit more info about it if i remember correctly.
the actual details of the video are a bit murky to me as i only saw it once and that was already quite sometime ago at this point, but ill try and give a quick rundown of what i can remember from it (in order of what happens in the video):
- the video starts in what seems to be a debug menu of sorts, like a developer menu or just general back-end of the gamecubes BIOs
- who ever is recording the video goes through the menu a bit, looking for the correct buttons to trigger the easter egg. i think there was a beeping that would trigger each time they moved through the menu as well.
- as soon as the easter egg was triggered, there was a build up of a weird, kinda eerie static sound that grew quite loud till it suddenly cut, screen going blank
- the actual easter egg itself was a small drawing in black and white with a message by one of the more notable people from nintendo, cant exactly remember who it was though (there might have also been a tune that played with the easter egg as well, but im not 100% sure about that being part of it)
i originally went on r/tipofmytongue to try and get some help finding this, but the post i made quickly got lost in the noise of the subreddit so i didnt have any luck. since ive posted that however, ive remembered a few more (fairly minor) details which ive listed above that might help with finding it as well. regardless, ill link the post here for anyone curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/n46dgo/tomtvideo_lost_gamecube_bios_easter_egg_video/
ive done my own searching a few times for it, using keywords i can remember from the title, like "weird gamecube easter egg" or "creepy gamecube easter egg", but have had absolutely no luck finding it even after going through pages and pages of youtube and google searches.
was a bit hesitant to bring it over to the lost media wiki forums, but i feel that since a lot of people here have interest in obscure media, someone might remember the video and know a bit more about this, or even have a link to it or downloaded version of the video. thank you in advance for any help on finding this! <3
