Heya, I was advised to post about this on here, so here we go. I recently tweeted about this and I have also posted this on r/tipofmytongue atleast once (around last year) but it got little to no traction there and I keep forgetting and remembering this whole thing from time to time.
I'm looking for a stop motion animation, it was either clay or puppets, I can't exactly remember which one it was (possibly mix of both?). I remember lending this on a VHS from my hometowns local library around 2002-2006 when I was a kid (I'm 27 at the time of writing this) and it's most likely from the 80's or 90's, it had that certain type of... crusty feeling to it.
Please note that I live in Finland and I've also tried to scavenge through all kinds of Finnish animations from around the time I think this was made but nothing has come up as of right now and I'm pretty sure it's not Finnish at all. It might be a Soviet cartoon?
Also I am so sorry for any spelling mistakes or confusing language, English is my secondary language. And I'm also sorry but this will be long, I'm trying to get every little detail out of my head.
The setting was in a desert/savannah for most of the stories and if I remember correctly, there were atleast two stories that I remember pretty vividly, but it feels like there might have been more (maybe 3-4 in total? I might ve remembering wrong and it was only the two I can describe). All the characters were some kind of non-human creatures/animals, most of the characters walked on two legs. No dialog at all, just grunts and animal-like sounds.
The first story started with a small, gecko-like lizard escaping from a predator by dropping it's tail. One of the characters (resembled a sloth or something, I don't know why but I keep thinking of Sid from Ice Age. It had a weird, wide head shape), found the severed lizard tail and decided that it would be a funny prank to stick it onto other animals butts (since they didn't have tails, I think). The sloth-like character would torment others with the tail and laughed at them, when they tried to get it off. Then two other characters (which seemed to be the main characters? They also appeared in the other story) stole the tail from the sloth-like character, while it was sleeping and then stuck it onto it's butt as a revenge, and all the other characters that got teased, would laugh as the sloth character would try to get the tail off. And this is where the first story ends. I know that sounds so weird and bizarre, but the tail thing is something I've never seen anywhere else and it was just.. so strange it stuck (haha) to me.
Then I'm pretty sure there were some other stories between but I can't for the life of me to remember, so there might have been nothing between the first and this next part.
The "last" story had the two "good" characters from the first episode, finding a treasure map (I think it was in a glass bottle on a beach). They would follow the map to a cave, the entrance looked like an open mouth with teeth(?). The characters would enter the cave and find a giant pile of treasure, gold and jewels from the deepest part of the cave. In the very back, there was a statue of some rock creature, holding a giant diamond(? This part is also a little fuzzy, it might have been just the diamond partly inside a wall and no statue). One of the characters seemed to be reasonable and take some of the treasure from the pile, but the other one tried to get the giant diamond from the statue. That somehow made a giant statue in the background come to life(?) and it started chasing the two characters, as the whole cave started to collapse. The two characters ran out of the cave and the statue monster got crushed as the cave entrance collapsed onto it. The greedy character was sad that they lost all the treasure, but the other character pulled out couple gold coins(?) and they shared them. Then the whole tape ended.
I have talked about this with multiple friends and other people over the years, but only one of them have seemed to know what I was talking about (and I know that for a fact, because they were able to describe some of that cave episode without me prompting it). And at the start of every episode/story, there was a MGM style logo animation, with a circus director making a lion roar (also animated in the same style, but circus director was clearly a human).
Would anyone possibly have any idea what this is? It's something that I'd love to see again but it has been so long, details are getting fuzzier even when I have written this whole thing down multiple times over the years and either added to it or edited some parts I haven't been sure about or feel like I've remembered them wrong before.
If anyone has any idea, I definitely appreciate it!
