I think it is possible that maybe the Charlie version was a test. This might explain why it was only available on Xfinity/Comcast. But I doubt the Charlie version exist. Also I'm quite skeptical that Cookie Jar Entertainment would spend money on a dub just to change the name of the main character. The show even ended on 2010. I just doubt they will change the name for the character even though production for the show ended.

Ah, I was unaware the show ended in 2010. I thought it was going much longer than that!
Canadian here, I have some input for this subject.
First, the French version of Caillou is not a dub I'm pretty sure. It's the original version. If you watch the French version, the mouths are made to fit the French language. The English version itself is a dub. Caillou aired on Télétoon (French Canadian version of Teletoon) and aired on the English variant of the station a month after.
Second, I would not be surprised if this existed. But I want to remind everyone that there IS a Charlie in Caillou already.
His cat. Is it possible that you heard the name "Charlie" in the show, when referring to the cat, and got in confused and are misremembering? If not, I'm going to assume they just coincidentally chose the name Charlie because of how close it can be to Caillou in length and first letter. And if so they probably changed the name of the cat.
Third, if this does exist I'm going to assume it was made for the American market, as Caillou is a very odd name and would be hard for Americans to pronounce by looking at it (hell, as a kid with no understanding of French I didn't understand why his name had L's in it) but it also wouldn't surprise me if it was going to be changed to "Charlie" in English Canada. I'm not sure when the books were translated to English, so I'm not sure if it was BEFORE the show came out or after because of the success. Because this would most likely pin down if it was originally planned to air in Anglo Canada or The states.
I think if something like this existed it would have to be have made around when the show was being tested for American audiences, after all, Caillou's original voice actor passed away (may she rest in peace) so this would imply that this dub was made *before* her death, unless the second voice actor could pass her voice off as the original really well (I'd have to compare the voices to come to a conclusion of whether this is possible) It makes sense to me at least, that this was made for TEST AUDIENCES and never released until said station got the rights to air it, and they most likely got the "Charlie" dub too, and after all this years, someone decided to air it.
So basically, in my opinion, it was made for American test audiences, not used, then made lost media, then passed around as an option to channels to air, and a channel finally decided they wanted to air this version of Caillou with an alternate, more "American" name.
As much as I theorize this was probably very early seasons, it's still possible it was later ones. But the show was done my a few different companies over the years, so it would be hard to track it down.
Cookie Jar has full rights to Caillou now, and if they do, they would have the "Charlie" dub. Not sure how difficult it is to get in contact with them, but I think I will try, because this has got me curious.

*edit: I meant wildbrain. They USED to go by cookie jar.
Back around 2010, give or take a few years, there was a version of Caillou that aired simultaneously with the broadcast of the original show. It aired on an alternate channel number among my channel options for xfinity/comcast tv. It was the exact same show except for one key difference. The title, title character, and dubbing, all changed Caillou's name to Charlie. So the theme song sang Charlie, even. I have never seen any further info on this, but I have 0 doubt in my mind that this was a thing.

from what i know dealing with tracking down lost 90s/00s canadian cartoons for the past year: its...difficult to get in contact with wildbrain/dhx (not Impossible. there are some studios i know of that Do Not answer any messages, at all) unless you're Also involved with licensing/media distribution or a big streaming platform/tv network. however most cancon that's free-to-air here in the us is from their back catalogue (the rest consists of nelvana stuff and the occasional smaller studio that. actually releases their shows and distributes them theirselves) so that's something of note. their back catalogue Is missing some content from when they ate up 75% of canada's animation studios back in the late 00s (i *believe* caillou is in there but last time i checked the charlie dub you guys are looking for isn't) but i'm sure if you asked they'd be able to give u a solid answer

The whole 'test audience' thing might be a plausible theory. However, if that was the case for OP, I'm not sure why they would have changed the name back to the original Caillou if they'd already dubbed and designed an English name/logo. A localised name usually sticks.

yeah that's the problem, I haven't even messaged them yet because there isn't anything in their "contact us" that actually matches what I'm inquiring about. It's always possible the author of Caillou knows but I'm not familiar with them, if they're still alive, if they even know English, etc.
Going through voice actors is probably the best option, but again, we have the problem of them being incredibly hard to get in contact with, and one of them having passed. And there's always the chance they don't remember it at all, even if it did happen. So an answer of "no/I don't remember that" from one person isn't really evidence of anything.
I have a feeling this is one of those things that's on YouTube somewhere in the background of a kid recording a YouTube video with the show on in the background. But that's pretty much impossible to find lol. I'm gonna do some more research
I thought that too. I think Charlie might have been his name in the French dub like how Rosie was referred to as Mousseline.
I went and skimmed through some episodes from a few different seasons of the French version and he was referred to as Gilbert (pronounced ʒil.bɛʁ). Unless perhaps there's an alternate French version too?

I was watching the French version on that day and they referred to the cat as "Charlie" That's what I thought it was in the English version too, but maybe I'm wrong? I don't know if there's a Québécois version and a Parisian French version or what.
If you were at a very young age, you might just be having a false memory. Your memory is a lot less reliable when you're really young.
I'm not quite sure which episode, but Caillou and his family were eating and the cat knocked something over or something and Caillou said "Charlie!" Or something If anyone here knows anything past grade school french and knows if "Charlie" probably is just a word for something, please let me know. For now I'm going to try finding the episode again.
