Denny’s menu featuring Sonic the Hedgehog

This is a personal quest to confirm whether or not I’m remembering something correctly.
I remember going to Denny’s when I was a kid and they were using a Sonic the Hedgehog license. The menu, at least the kids’ menu, had Sonic artwork on it, both Sonic himself and Knuckles, I believe (I wasn’t into Sonic at the time, so I wasn’t familiar with the characters, and I just remember the second character being red; it could’ve been Shadow too, I guess). I looked it up recently, and Denny’s did indeed have a Sonic promotion: in 2000, they were selling plush dolls of Sonic and Knuckles from Sonic Underground (which is weird, because the show only lasted a few months the first half of the previous year). Anyway, the problem here is that I remember them having their modern video game designs (the art had the same style as the character illustrations in the manual of Sonic Adventure). But I believe they were giving out the dolls when I was there. The show premiered in 1999, which is the same year the game was released in the USA, so they’re both roughly within the same time frame, even though this promotion was done in 2000 (and if I did indeed go in 2000, that eliminates the possibility of Shadow being the second character, because he debuted in Sonic Adventure 2, which came out in 2001).
So is it conceivable that the dolls, as well as the display advertising them, used the Sonic Underground designs, but the kids’ menu used the Sonic Adventure designs?
