Many of you had rarely heard about the final Windows 9x kernel operating system Windows Millennium Edition (or Windows ME). It was the successor to Windows 98 Second Edition, and included new features including Internet Explorer 5.5, Windows Image Acquisition, System Restore, Windows Media Player 7, and Windows Movie Maker.
Unfortunately, it wasn't very well received by critics and users alike, being criticized for the large number of software bugs, being very unstable most of the time, the fact that System Restore could restore malware that a user previously removed, and the removal of Real Mode DOS, in which many MS-DOS software and games utilized.
While Windows ME can easily be found on many abandonware websites for download, many CD-ROM copies provided by those websites are not bootable and include the boot disk floppy to install the OS, but since MS-DOS 8 is crippled and is already bundled with Windows ME with Real Mode DOS removed, it is very difficult to install the OS on both a physical machine and a virtual machine even with a Windows ME boot disk floppy, so try using a Windows 98 Second Edition boot disk floppy instead.
If there are any bootable Windows ME CD-ROMs floating around on abandonware websites, or if physical bootable Windows ME CD-ROMs do exist, then those are the rarest Windows 9x releases, as Windows ME was sold for about only a year (2000 & 2001) and 402 days before Windows XP's release.
If any bootable Windows ME CD-ROMs do appear on Ebay and/or Amazon, I want to hear from you.
