Das Sandmännchen is the West German version of the East German show Unser Sandmännchen. Apparently, the Eastern version was more popular, so the Western version is no longer produced. But I can't verify that. Citation needed.
I find little info about the Western version: Who produced it? How long did it run? How many episodes were made? And why was it cancelled?
Here are the episodes I've found online. Besides the year, which I cannot verify, exact air dates are hard to come by.
This one has the RBB logo. RBB currently produces the Eastern version, which survived post-reunification and airs to this day.
The channel "Nostalgie Fohlen" on YouTube has uploaded several episodes, but YouTube Kids prevents making a single playlist, so here's a long post of videos:
And something called "Sandmännchen International", which looks nothing like the Western Sandman, but a modified version of the Western theme plays, so I don't know (shrug)
If anyone has info on "Sandmännchen International", please post it here. Because I have no idea what it is.

I hazard to guess Ivor Wood is behind the stop motion models?
I don't think so. I cannot find anything online linking him to the show.
Sharing a reply I received to one of the videos I shared above. The uploader is Fred Foster Father for Forgotten Films :
Hi Emir, in fact this is the only "Sandmännchen"-episode I have in my 16mm film collection. I replaced the missing German conversation between the clown and the duck with some fitting theremin music. How comes that you are interested in this old fashioned German TV series? I can give you some links that will trace you to more information about this long running children's program:
(Here are the results of my search on the website www.tvprogramme.net - shows you when and on which channel "Sandmännchen" and "Sandmännchen International" aired in German TV)

Started a spreadsheet with episode descriptions dating back to 1959 of both West and East Sandmännchen. If anyone wants to complete the list (I'm at 1961 so far), please reply.
