Growing up I owned an old cassette that was a compilation of theme songs from Japanese kids shows. I remember the cassette had songs from things like the original ultraman (1966) and astro boy (1963), but there were also songs from shows I’d never heard of. One song in particular was catchy enough and simple enough that even a kid like me that didn’t know any Japanese could learn the lyrics. The cassette itself was either lost or stolen when I was in elementary school, so any help finding this song, the show it’s from or even a copy of the cassette itself would be greatly appreciated.
The lyrics are (to the best of my ability) as follows: Urashi toki wa pero yon kanoshi toki wa pero yon tanoshi toki mo pero yon samishi toki mo pero yon mama ni no papa ni no ienai koto pero chan ni nara o hanashi dekiru kokoro no o tomodachi minna no pero chan
So from context clues the main character (or at least the character they’re singing about) is called “pero chan”. But any google search for this, or the lyrics of the song in general comes up empty. There is a result for a character named pero chan from an anime in the 90’s but this show is certainly older than that.
Other info that might help: My grandmother used to live in Japan and the cassette most likely originally belonged to my uncle that grew up in the mid/late 70’s. So it’s doubtful that the song is from any show after that time period. I mentioned the ultraman theme was on the cassette- it was for sure track no. 1. I remember either the cassette or the box it came in was a bright yellow.
