When I was very young, I remember watching this cartoon. I recall a few episodes playing on the television while I was playing in my families lounge room. I think my older sister was watching it or it was simply playing in the background. This could’ve been anywhere between 2004 to 2009.
The tv show appeared to either be an anime inspired cartoon or a early 2000s anime. It had an art style and colour palette very similar to Generator Rex. I’m not sure what station it aired on. From what I can remember, it followed a teenage girl (or maybe younger...she was in a school uniform most of the time) and this family of supernatural relatives. I recall the son looking and sounding similar to Beast Boy from Teen Titans. I think he was very close with the girl. Also, I think the father died in an episode I saw.
I’m pretty sure the family solved supernatural occurrences that happened in the town they live in. I vividly remember an episode (which still bothers me to this very day) which started with a young woman at some kind of voodoo store. She purchased a kind of worm-like creature that came a box or jar. I think the man who ran the store was very old, and was the villain for the episode.
I distinctly remember him saying “You should be happy to have it...and it’ll be happy to have you” once the woman leaves the store. I’m pretty certain the worm-like creature attacks her shortly after. I may be wrong, but I’m sure the episode featured that worm plaguing the city and attacking people. There was a seen that disturbed me when it went up the drain of someone’s sink. I think they were in a public bathroom.
I also recall an episode with a very emotional ending. I think the father of the family was dying (probably old age, I remember him looking very aged). He sat in an old chair in a Victorian styled house for most of the episode, surrounded by the main cast. I remember everyone in the family, including the girl crying before the episode ended.
I can’t remember many more episodes of the animated series. I have no idea what it’s called, and I’ve searched up and down on google for the series name. I’ve looked up everything from “anime inspired cartoons” to “Cartoon episode with worm creature” to “Animated show with supernatural family” and many more key words.
If anybody here can remember the name or even a similar cartoon, that would be greatly appreciated. It’s been bothering me for the past few years now.
