I think that I encountered this children's book between the years of 2002 and 2008. My memories of what the book was like are very faint. I think that, at the beginning, the story was about a person cooking a sausage in their kitchen. Then, for some reason, the sausage started growing to a very large size and began filling up the entire kitchen. Before the sausage grew any bigger, a small dog (presumably owned by whoever was cooking the sausage) ate the whole thing. I think that when the sausage grew, it became very round and lumpy-looking and didn't look much like a sausage any more. Additionally, I think that the dog was white with black marks on its face and back, and that it most closely resembled a bull terrier. I can't remember anything else about the illustrations in the book. The book most likely originated from the USA, the UK, or Australia. Does this sound familiar to anyone else here?

I remember this in grade school but the name escapes me. For me it would have had to have been around 1999-2004 if it’s what Im thinking of. Did the sausage get dirty and more disgusting looking over time?

I was recently reminded of the existence of this thread, and now I don't know why I said that this book was unlikely to be the answer. "The Terrible Wild Grey Hairy Thing", by Jean Chapman, is very likely to be the correct answer to my query. The only thing that I still need to be confirmed is whether or not the story ends with a dog eating the giant sausage.

This is, indeed, the book.
"In the end a black dog charges in and eats the terrible wild grey hairy thing. And the story ends on the line: It was only a little dog, but very hungry.”
