Nah, the one below it isn't even a real movie. Pretty obvious they picked rather infamous things for the joke.
It seems someone who works on that show is interested in lost media and wanted to shout it out. Which is pretty cool that a show references lost media.

I would still contact just in case. Either way, it's still pretty cool that they would give the search a shoutout as you've said.

I really doubt that, actually this “Lost Media” joke in shows and movies actually happens a lot, like when Homer Simpsons comes across a copy of a lost shakespeare play at a flea market and tosses it to the side calling it “Junk”. The joke actually probably dates back to 1966 in the little known serial “Captain Celluloid vs. The Film Pirates” which is all about silent film collectors. We see a large vault of films getting blown up containing all the notorious lost films, like “London After Midnight” or “Phantom of The Opera Color Scenes”. Contacting them would be a little ridiculous I feel. Plus, no one labels a VHS tape contaning a episode of sesame street with the production code number on it.

Yeah, it obviously isn't it, and unless they relabeled it there's no reason they would all have the same handwriting on them.

So, in terms of this episode, who all has been contacted about it? I’m assuming some higher ups at CTW, right? Because, this might be a long shot, but hear me out... what are the odds Caroll Spinney has a copy? Sure, even if he does, there’s no way he’d wanna leak it online, but there’s no harm in asking.

We could try, but itd be weird for him to have every episode he’s ever worked on, considering he’s been in hundreds, if not thousands.

Well, hasn’t he been quoted as saying that this was his favorite episode? Surely he must have some knowledge of it. It’s worth a try.

We are one step ahead of you buddy; some guy at Muppet Central sent a letter to Caroll but never got a response. I emailed CTW, but that was on an account I no longer have so I'm not sure if they ever got back to me; they never did about Cracks.
There was some guy on YouTube who got the furthest of anyone by requesting a private viewing but they said no, and there was a big fan petition that I'm not even sure ever got sent in.

Sounds like you guys have covered all the bases then. Is there anyone else we could possibly contact about it? Maybe someone related to Margaret Hamilton?

There was a theory saying it couldn't be released because of Warner Bros., but I just see SS having no interest releasing a controversial episode just to please some hardcore fans with nothing to gain (and perhaps more to lose) from releasing it.

I think Virtuaboi means that Children's Television Workshop just sees no benefits or profit from re-releasing a controversial episode when it was broadcasted only once on February 10th, 1976 for being too scary for children.

I think Virtuaboi means that Children's Television Workshop just sees no benefits or profit from re-releasing a controversial episode when it was broadcasted only once on February 10th, 1976 for being too scary for children.
They released episodes from the first season or two under the guise that it's not suitable for kids (that included things like Cookie Monster smoking a pipe and one of the human characters taking some random kid he met on the street home for cookies), so it's not like they've never re-released controversial material. Plus, most of the people who might want to see the short are adults, most likely
