I'm trying to identify a cartoon series that I remember was shown on Irish TV in the late 70's. Like the clown short that I previously enquired about (still unidentified) I don't believe this was produced in Ireland, I think it was quite likely Eastern European though this isn't a given.
The main character was a concert pianist, he was drawn as a small bearded man in glasses. Each episode would begin with him walking onto a stage before an audience in a concert hall, sitting down and playing the piano. What happened next was steps would extend from the piano and the pianist would walk up the steps and enter the piano. This led to him entering a different world every episode and going through an adventure. I think it would be revealed every week that the adventure was a dream and he would suddenly wake up when experiencing danger in the adventure. I'm pretty sure the character was mute and there was no dialogue throughout.
The one episode that I can remember in detail saw him in an Arabian Nights type adventure. I think it involved him stealing (?) a magic lamp from a genie and magically conjuring a sports car which he filled with treasure. I remember a scene where the genie is pursuing him from above. You could see an aeriel view of the pianist speeding along a road. Next the genie I think shoots something out of his fingers (lightining bolts?) and the car and treasure disappear. Next the genie is menacingly pointing his finger at the frightened pianists nose and theres a flash and the pianist wakes up to find out it was a dream, I'm not sure if he woke up in bed or at the piano but it was definetly revealed that the adventure had been a dream.
A poster on another thread who remembers this cartoon thinks it might have been called Professor Plinkity Plonk or something similar though searching brings no joy
