It seems strange that he advertises all his modeling work yet seems to not sell it. I'm going to assume this means a lot of his work is licensed IPs, though seeing that the camera model didn't have a texture or light until the rest of his team worked on that, I'm not sure if there were even any branding labels on it. The HP logo might be part of the model, though.
He's not a freelancer. He works for bigger companies. The models are his portfolio.
Did anybody notice the file path printed on the photo?
studio/shrek2/pic/shpo_shrek/r3/comp/f.101.r
Studio: Related to the studio's work Shrek2: Related to Shrek 2 Pic: Pictures SHPO Shrek: Probably a shorter version of the Ad project's name R3: Round 3? Comp: Composition / Completed F.101.R: Frame 101, rendered
The other image would likely have had a similar file name in Dreamwork's archives.
I found a source for the image on "The Register", posted in 2009, though the article is from 2014. It's called "HP Shrek 2". The author of the article still works there, so I'll e-mail him asking about how he got it.
Did he respond to the email yet, or should we contact him on Twitter?
Does recording 5 minutes of My Bedbugs count as finding something?

Hi ! It's Shrek Storybook (i'm not on Twitter anymore, i'm mainly on Insta). A guy named 'kkkeggg' on twitter found a full picture of the render of Shrek taking a picture. It's a really cool find, but it kinda confirms what I've been thinking. I don't think that there's any video for this Shrek 2 x HP collaboration. The pictures that were found (Shrek looking at the camera, and Shrek taking the picture) looked like renders and not screenshots. Now that the full pic is here, it confirms that it's a render. I know I could be wrong but because of this I think that only photos were made and no video ever existed
I contacted Luca Prasso in February regarding this commercial, since I believe he was the a supervisor at PDI/DreamWorks at the time, and there's a couple photos of him in front of the famous frame hung on a wall (e.g. italianidifrontiera.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/Prasso.jpg). Alas, he didn't have any insight as to where to find it. This was his response:

> Hi, > > I have no idea where such material could be. I don’t remember the specific commercial but I remember the poster hanging on the wall. DreamWorks closed the office in Redwood City where that picture was hanging. No idea if it was relocated in LA. > > I’m sorry that I don’t have any more information for you. > > Best > Luca
I also attempted to contact HP themselves about it, but (unsurprisingly) received no response.
This was 100% a commercial, y’all. I remember it coming on either Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network between late 2003 and early 2004 because I remember being so excited for the new movie (Shrek 2). Had to have been one of those two channels because that was all I watched back then.
In the commercial, the fairytale creatures that had all been banished to his home in the first movie were posing for a picture in the swamp with Shrek as the photographer and Donkey ruins the picture every time because he can’t cooperate! I hope yall can find the commercial because it was actually a great ad.

Ooh, thanks for providing this information! Do you have any more specificities about what you remember of the advert, or a sensible timeframe? Are you saying ballpark September 2003-April 2004? I ask because I wonder if a brute-force approach of watching through Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon commercial compilations may yield results. Although it ultimately didn't help us actually find the lost Spongebob 'Got Milk?' ad, it certainly got us a lot closer, and I'd be willing to take a look!
To update - we've found a couple of speeches archived on the HP website from 2004, talking about the developing partnership between HP and Dreamworks. We also discovered that there were quite a few Shrek-themed competitions giving away the specific type of camera advertised...with all of this evidence, I am inclined to believe it does exist. Any more info you can give would be so valuable!

If I understand it correctly, a bunch of people were watching hours of commercial compilations, and then somebody else uploaded the ad.
I'd estimate that watching all those commercials probably contributed to like 80% of the progress in that search.
