I don't know if any of you have heard this, but at one point, MTV was allegedly running a YouTube before-video advertisement for their horror show ''Scream''. The first five seconds of the video were of a disturbing grey face with creepy voices in the background saying ''CLICK SKIP AND DIE. CLICK SKIP AND DIE.''. However, due to not being able to find it anywhere on YouTube and only finding one screenshot of it, I am starting to question it's existence. One individual told me that the ad was removed due to YouTube receiving several complaints about it. This is the screenshot I was able to find of it:
If anybody knows if this ad is still available for viewing somewhere on the internet, please do tell.
I'm looking into it. This sounds like it'll be a fun experience. I just reverse image searched your screenshot and I found a few pages that I'll search.
I agree wholeheartedly with what Nanis said. Well put.
Anyways, this ad is definitely real, there are tons of Tumblr posts warning people about it (even Markiplier got involved), and even a Twitter account that was dedicated to retweeting people complaining about it: twitter.com/reallyoutube I didn't find it, but I did find more screenshots (though they're from after the first 5 seconds):
It's weird how it could just drop off the face of the earth, you'd think somebody would have saved it. Here's a similar ad for something else though: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug9-bYrechQ Imo this one seems like it would be less scary to have pop up because if I wasn't specifically searching for it I probably wouldn't have even made the connection that the first few seconds are directed at the viewer.
Hah. I found that other one while I was looking through YouTube. It's truly mind boggling that nobody decided to save the video, especially considering how controversial it is. I think someone may have uploaded it and YouTube deleted it for either:
A. Copyright.
B. They didn't want the video up in any form whatsoever.
Maybe it's somewhere in a dark corner of Vimeo. They don't seem to care too much over there.
a video uploaded to the internet that is lost??? Now that's interesting. I bet the video is on some video sharing sight but it would be odd if youtube took it down considering they have tons videos of (awful) ads still up.
huh, i do like the scream TV show(even though it isn't really anything special) and i do remember seeing this ad a few times when it started. Sad to see people took it more seriously then it should have. i mean, it is practically scream 4 in TV version, and if you saw scream 4 you would know its just a modern scream with technology in the mix. I will try to help find this ad, but it was really controversial for the reason of easily scared people being scared.
It doesn't seem like a huge deal to you and me, but apparently it caused panic attacks for people with serious anxiety and other mental conditions. Granted, that is a serious issue since it could pop up no matter what video you're on, so no type of content warning could let those people avoid it, but why those people couldn't just use Adblock, I do not know.
Sorry for not getting back to you on this. I didn't find anything during my brief search. I agree with stormworm. Ask MTV about it. If they won't release it, try contacting someone working there around the time of the advert.
im assuming no one saved it to their system (i dont know why they would) because its not on youtube, dailymotion, vimeo, any video sharing site you can think of
