Hi there, I'm hoping to find leads on a show that I haven't the faintest idea how to find anymore. I hit a wall about 3 years ago and now that I know this forum exists I hope I can finally lay my search to rest.
So I have lots of details to share, which will hopefully make the finding a lot easier. This show aired around 8am central time on YTV, right after Oh Canada some time from 2000 to 2005. The premise of the show was about different social issues going on in the world, usually focusing on poverty, bullying, lack of access to education yadda yadda and it was live action.
The host is quite memorable, she had red hair and in the first episode or two she was actually dressed up as a cowgirl because her mom entered her in beauty pageants and that was her main look (this was a segway into a topic about bullying and loving yourself). After she got rid of her get-up, she mainly wore a basic shirt and pants, her hair in a pony and I think very simple make up if any. I feel like her name was Jane but I could be completely wrong.
A major funder for the program was UNICEF.
I emailed YTV about it back in 2014 asking for the name and recieved no reply whatsoever, so I'm not sure if I didn't word it well or if they just didn't know and didn't want to waste time finding out.
I remember seeing something like this in my searches online but idk:p i'll have a look later
That's awesome, thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I'm trying to think of more details I have... I know she did an episode on landmines and one on child soldiers, but I can't think of many more. They all had a somber tone, but at the end it was always "This is how these kids are over coming it" or "This is what you can do to help!". I also remember that the episode about access to education has a strong focus on girls not being allowed to pursue education and they had a clip from another child's cartoon show about a brother and sister - and their parrot - in India (?) and the brother gets to go to school but not the sister and how she felt about that and then later she does get to go to school? They also talked about child marriages.
I believe it was on either just or a few shows before Incredible Story Studio. I remember the line up roughly being Mystery Hunters at 7am. Time Blazers at 7:30, then this show, and then I would be off to school so only if I stayed home would I see the show after which I feel was I.S.S.
I feel like this is a strong link, this article was published in 2000 about UNICEF and YTV having programs run about children around the world and violations of their rights etc. (7th paragraph down specifically mentions YTV) kidscreen.com/2000/12/01/30470-20001201/ I didn't watch it in 2000 but it seemed like it had been on YTV before I did start watching it in 2001/2002. Unfortunately I can't find the titles of the show part of this endeavor, but I think this could help get us on the right track?
Thanks for looking, unfortunately that isn't it. It only had one person reporting, a girl (around 18), and focused specifically on current events social injustices having to do with children, one topic per episode. So close though!
I genuinely don't have a clue what you're talking about. If it did wind up airing well into the 2000s, check out the CRTC's broadcast logs: support.crtc.gc.ca/logs/ Each folder represents a month out of a year. Click one, scroll (or CTFL+F) until you find YTV. Download the file, open it up and try to dig for it.
You could also try the Wayback Machine, but that's a crapshoot.
There's one log for YTV, it's for 2005, but the file cannot be opened.
Huh? There are logs for YTV starting from February 2000 onwards. The issue is that until September 2000, the logs are only available in the depreciated .arc file format. However, from then they switched to .txt files. Most of them have been compressed into .zip files, but there are plenty of free programs that open those. I use 7zip.

Thank you, I will try to do that when I get home from work. I don't have the foggest idea how to use that site but hopefully it comes with ease
Hey, I know it's been awhile, But I stumbled across a wiki page for a show called "Kidsbeat" a show that quote; "focuses on news stories and specials that matter to kids". It originally aired in the 1980s but I brought it up since it does seem similar in concept and it is Canadian and the wiki article is a stub with very little information. It is quite possible it could have aired reruns in the 2000s. It's a longshot but something I thought I'd just throw out there lol
