1521 Harriet Elizabeth Cow: Now, which country do you think this is. Class? Daniel Striped Tiger: Well, with the mountain and everything, maybe it looks like Up-Above Land, Miss Cow. Harriet Elizabeth Cow: You're absolutely right, Daniel. And what about this one? Ana Platypus: Um, I think that's Down-Under Land. Harriet Elizabeth Cow: Yes, Ana, it used to be Down-Under Land, but not anymore. Prince Tuesday: Oh, I know. I know. That's the one that had the war with Side-Step Land. So now everything from Down-Under Land is in with Side-Step Land. Harriet Elizabeth Cow: That is correct. Ana Platypus: I'm glad I don't live there. Daniel Striped Tiger: I am too. I wouldn't like to live where they're having a war. Is this interesting? | Share this Prince Tuesday: Careful, Trolley, Daddy has a pretend bomb! X the Owl: [Trolley dings and whistles] It's just pretend, Trolley. Is this interesting? | Share this Prince Tuesday: We've never had a war in this neighborhood, have we? King Friday XIII: No, we haven't. Why do you ask? Prince Tuesday: Well, we were studying about countries and wars and things like that at school. And Miss Cow said she thought we never had a war. King Friday XIII: Oh no. Your grandfather and your great grandfather and your great great grandfather never believed in wars. They used to say there are other ways to solve a problem. They even taught us a song in the kingly school about that. [singing, to the tune of "There Are Many Ways"] King Friday XIII: There are other ways/To solve a problem/There are other ways to solve a nasty problem/Other ways/Other ways... [Speaking] King Friday XIII: What could solve this problem? [Studies spare part from Corny] Prince Tuesday: Where did it come from? King Friday XIII: Mr. Pecially is making these for Southwood. It's just a part of something. Prince Tuesday: Has Southwood ever had a war? King Friday XIII: I believe they did once. Long, long ago. Prince Tuesday: Wow. Then they know how. King Friday XIII: Yes, I guess they do know how... Prince Tuesday: ...To build bombs and make bullets and make all kinds of bad stuff to hurt people. Handyman Negri: Oh Tuesday, I don't think a little part like this could ever be part of a bomb or... Prince Tuesday: You never know. King Friday XIII: That's right. This could be part of a bomb... Or something.
1522 Handyman Negri: [about a strange spare part they got from Corny] I was wondering, do you think it may be a part of a windmill or something like that? King Friday XIII: I have reason to believe that it might be part of a bomb. Handyman Negri: A bomb? King Friday XIII: Yes, so here is your assignment, Handyman Negri: you are to order a million of these from Cornflake S. Pecially and conscript everyone in the neighborhood to help put the bombs together. Handyman Negri: But King Friday... King Friday XIII: No buts about it, Handyman, this is serious business. Handyman Negri: Yes, sire, but a million of them? King Friday XIII: Yes, a million. If Southwood has a million, we will have a million and ONE. Handyman Negri: I see. King Friday XIII: You have your work to do. I must get in touch with our known allies. Is this interesting? | Share this X the Owl: [has been asked to help assemble a bomb] I don't think we should call them "bombs", though. We should call them "surprise treats" or something like that. Bombs are scary things and hurting things. Handyman Negri: Yeah. Handyman Negri: King Friday has ordered one million parts from Corny. That's going to take all of the country's money. Lady Elaine Fairchilde: A million parts for what? Handyman Negri: To make bombs. Lady Elaine Fairchilde: Bombs? Who's having a war? Handyman Negri: Well, he thinks we may have to. Lady Elaine Fairchilde: With whom? Handyman Negri: With Southwood. Lady Elaine Fairchilde: Southwood? Why I've heard that those people are tamer than Daniel Tiger. They wouldn't hurt anybody. Is this interesting? | Share this Audrey Paulifficate: [Answers phone] Neighborhood of Make Believe, castle garden. Yes, he is. He's working on the bomb right now. Handyman Negri: I don't think you're supposed to say things like that, Miss P. Audrey Paulifficate: Oh. No, he's not working on a bomb.
1523 Bob Dog: I'm a spy for the war. Lady Aberlin: A spy for the WHAT? Bob Dog: The war. The war with Southwood. Lady Aberlin: But we're not having a war with Southwood. We're not having a war with anyone! Bob Dog: [after pause] Well, then, just in case. See, I like to do detective work and that's alot like spy work, you know. Lady Aberlin: I know, but war is not a game, Bob Dog. War isn't anything that's fun. War is a terrible thing and we must do all we can to not EVER have one. Bob Dog: Okay, well I can still wear this costume though, can't I?
1524 None
1525 Keith the Southwood Carpenter: [has just assembled a record player from bomb parts] This record player was made from left over parts, Your Majesties. King Friday XIII: Just what our school needs, Mr. David. May we express our royal appreciation to you. Keith the Southwood Carpenter: It's fun for me to make things like this. King Friday XIII: How many pieces did it take to make? Keith the Southwood Carpenter: A hundred. King Friday XIII: And, Handyman Negri, how many pieces do we have left from our factory order? Handyman Negri: About 100,000, sir. King Friday XIII: That means we could make about 1,000 record players, if Mr. David were willing to supervise the work. Keith the Southwood Carpenter: That's true, but why would you need so many, Your Majesty? King Friday XIII: I'd like to give one to every school in the world.
Lady Aberlin: I'm doing a show about peace. X the Owl: Oh, well peace is a good thing, isn't it? Lady Aberlin: I'll say. Would you like to say something about peace? X the Owl: Certainly. I think peace is what everybody should have. In fact, I think everybody should have a piece of peace. Lady Aberlin: And why do you think it's so good? X the Owl: Well, it's that quiet feeling inside that makes you feel all warm and, I don't know, I just like it, I do.
If anyone lives near Pittsburgh PA I would appreciate it if you can rent these from the University of Pittsburgh library. They have all the conflict episodes.
I forgot to post this when I received this message. Back in december, I contacted and received a message from the neighborhood archive owner. I asked his if he has access to the conflict episodes, and here is what he said.
An easy way to scim through them to check is to just watch the openings, if they say 1521,1522,1523,1524,1525, or Mister rogers talks about conflict then they would be it.
