I'm a big fan of Tom Scott's YouTube channel, both back when he uploaded videos weekly, rewatching them now that he's done doing that, and the other channels he has uploaded to; like Tom Scott plus, Lateral, and The Technical Difficulties.
Those last three channels are currently linked on his main YouTube page, but not Matt and Tom, a behind-the-scenes channel he had with fellow Technical Difficulties member Matt Gray, which they've since retired.
On said channel, there are three videos I vividly remember watching on there, that are now privated:
- Matt & Tom sitting in the YouTube Studios cafeteria in London, talking about YouTube subtitling, where the video was titled along the lines of "Soob-tit-lays" (which was Matt intentionally mispronouncing "Subtitles", along with other place names like Stevenage).
- Matt & Tom sitting in one of their gardens, talking about being invited by Microsoft to try out the HoloLens.
- Same setting as the above video, featured multiple topics, where one of them being Tom talking about visiting a house of livestreamers.
In one of the last two videos, I remember there being a really funny gag, where Matt said something about maths and/or science, and Tom made a faux-inspirational quote out of it.
As to why these videos where privated, I have some ideas in descending order of certainty:
- Community subtitling isn't a thing anymore on YouTube, so there was no reason for them to keep up a video, of them encouraging the audience to prioritize subtitling videos that aren't theirs anymore.
- Given how they were given exclusive access to try the HoloLens, maybe they only had to, or were allowed to keep the video up for a certain amount of time, or it was taken down on request?
- I have no idea. Maybe the livestreamers that Tom visited and talked about got controversial, to where Matt & Tom felt they shouldn't keep the video up anymore? Or perhaps the group split up and requested Tom to take it down.
