Related to what I've previously written, I am very fascinated with lost media from obscure, defunct companies that never got to have much of an impact. Video games in particular have a long history of one-time developers or publishers, those who like released one game & never made anything else... or did they? What if they were planning on making other projects or WERE making such projects, but they never came out before the developer or publisher ceased to exist?
There can be some wild backstories behind such companies as well, like the kind of stuff they were making was some bonkers madness or they were perhaps a little too cuckoo & disorganized to keep going for much longer, etc. Generally I'm just so interested in failed products from such companies because they can be a lesson on what not to do & can also serve as a showcase of just how competitive a fair bit of entertainment fields are. They can be a real reminder on the fact that very few things will be able to survive past even half a decade. For every successful thing, there are over 100 failures that can sometimes be more interesting than the successful one. The failed ones can have some stories to tell that make it a lot more fun to research & talk about than the successful one, which may've been just a cash grab piece of crap.
For me, the more obscure & bizarre the company & their products(including cancelled) are, the better. European computer games have a fair bit of this stuff as well, as to be expected. Stuff that not many would know about outside of the European home computer scenes & even then, there are a heck of a fair bit of oddities here & there.
Now, sure, I do have interests in things from big companies like say Sega, Nintendo or Atari(the game my profile pic is of is an Atari game), but generally I'm kinda limited on how much of that stuff I'm interested in from big companies... & even then, Atari is a special case because they were only really a big deal for a little while before things turned to crap & a whole bunch of failures as well as a split happened; PLUS the Atari as it originally was no longer exists & now it's just Infogrames owning the Atari name, but apparently even then it's no longer the original Infogrames anymore?
As the years go on, I've also kinda realized that there is perhaps a more personal reason for this interest: I'm from Tennessee & unlike California, people barely get to hear about us & we don't make any sort of impact that still exists in some sense. The entertainment atmosphere in particular can feel empty here, seemingly because films, shows & video games are rarely MADE here. Some California-based studios would sometimes film around here, but to me that isn't really us, that's just a location shot. Like those failed companies, we're just a little blip to many. One that faded away & almost no one remembers, one that barely made an impact(I mean, we have, but it's nothing compared to Cali). In a sense, I can sorta relate to not having much of an impact, being this barely known & barely remembered thing that fell into obscurity soon afterwards, albeit obviously not on the same scale.
And thus, I feel like talking about such things because of the interest, curiousity & hey, perhaps it's some underrated gem or some interesting weird oddity! You'll never know 'til you decide to look into it & see for yourself!
Dreams are boundless, imaginations are infinite, space is a multi-directional spiral & Akazukin ChaCha is my favorite anime
Not that it's anything too special, but I found a ticket in one of my coats this year 2024 for a cultural convention I went to in 2016 or 2018 (don't recall which). I've been gathering stuff to scrapbook with, so that was useful to find LOL
