"True crime youtubers talking about a real life murder vs lost media youtubers talking about a cancelled episode of SpongeBob" (This is from a meme please don't take this seriously) I am a funny person
Mark Evanier made a case for Scrappy arguing that he essentially saved the entire Scooby-Doo franchise from going away permanently as the show was getting low ratings until Scrappy was brought in.
I watched a couple of the season 2 episodes on a stream (I ain't paying for this). They did tone down the weird sexual stuff, which is good. But Velma is still really annoying and the plotlines are just dull.
I doubt I will watch till the end but one of my major criticism of the show was that I hate that Velma is written as a punishing bag. She doesn't feel like a protagonist you cheer for, she feels instead like Meg from Family Guy.

Okay, I’m gonna be honest, I’ve actually never seen any Scooby-Doo related media… like ever. I probably will try checking out the movies if I ever get the chance to (and I certainly will be sure to download Holiday Haunt if that ever leaks.)

I found her funny and interesting and the plot interesting, I like Meg so for me that was a positive. I actually found it kinda refreshing that Velma wasn't like super awesome at everything and had real flaws, that made her more relatable to me.
I did notice they toned down the rating for the show as the first season was rated TV-MA and the second season is only rated TV-14, interesting, i've never seen a show completely change it's rating for an entire season before(except for shows that moved to other networks with more freedom).
I'm happy to pay for Max for this show and several others.
And I’d you look at the state of late 70s Scooby doo you can see why a slightly visually appealing character could save Scooby doo
I don’t actually mind scrappy that much though, but then my tolerance for “annoying“ things is strong.
Yeah they were heavily relying on guest stars by that point and many felt like the quality of the franchise had really slipped by that point(which was something Futurama mocked in "Saturday Morning Fun Pit" segment "Bendy Boo and the Mystery Crew", like the plot in that segment really wasn't far off at all from the exact kinds of stuff the Scooby gang was up to in the late 70s)and people wanted something new and Scrappy gave it to them, I remember watching some of the Scrappy segments at my grandmothers house and thinking he was alright.
So wait, Scooby was too unrealistic to add to Velma, but Scrappy isn't?? IDK what the logic of this show is at all, but I guess it doesn't matter.
To be fair that was completely out of the creators hands-the higher ups flat out told them they weren't allowed to use Scooby in the show(though the writers said even if they had been allowed to use him they were struggling to think of how to bring him into the show and I think it's for the best he wasn't in it as he would've felt out of place IMO)so they used Scrappy instead.
