Also... brolly22's ebay account is still active? I don't know whether that counts as "personal information" so I won't link it, but their account (created in 1997, so yes, it is the same brolly22) posted reviews as recently as 6 months ago.
EDIT: I sent them an eBay message asking if they were the same person as the one from the Twitter thread, which should hopefully settle the matter if they respond but I doubt that will happen for a long time, given how most people don't check eBay unless they want to buy something. Just putting that out there so other people know not to spam them
I'm very curious if you get a response, although I have seen the "screenshots" of someone else talking to them about the script and brolly22 claiming they never read it and sold it.
I have a feeling those screenshots aren't real though, simply because why wouldn't they read it?? That or brolly22 made that up...which also why??
I suppose nobody's quite connected brolly22 to any Scooby Doo or Superheroine adult content, which sort of throws a wrench in the whole thing.
When's the last time you checked YOUR ebay messages? Probably not recently, right? So I imagine that it could realistically be up to a year before I get a response, and in the mean time there's probably other avenues / potential leads.
_alexpine_ on discord. 2018 was HOW many years ago?!?! 2 correct unidentified/lost media solves out of my probably hundreds of bad guesses isn't THAT bad of a track record, right?

Actually they go directly to my email so pretty frequently.
It's pretty weird that nobody from the Space Ghost communities knows who won. It was obviously being watched in real time, hence the screenshot.

Whoever bought it must've not have had much of a digital footprint or something Either that or they weren't really a big space ghost fan and just wanted the script for some other reason
"True crime youtubers talking about a real life murder vs lost media youtubers talking about a cancelled episode of SpongeBob" (This is from a meme please don't take this seriously) I am a funny person

You have to remember that this was in 1999, though. Archives from back then are extremely sparse.
Other than waiting for brolly22 to get back to me (which will hopefully provide us with new information on the case), I think the best bet is trying to contact people who worked on the show. (If the 2022 twitter thread is confirmed real someday, that would pretty much be the only option.)
UPDATE: I have sent some emails to people who were active in the fandom at the time in the hopes of fishing for more information, but I don't expect much of a response beyond "what, dude, that was like 25 years ago, why would I remember?"

I wonder if there are anymore news articles about the whole event? Seems surreal there wasn't much press.
Edit: Has anyone tried looking at the adult swim site from around this time?
Edit 2: The earliest archive is from 2001. I'm gonna try CN's website.
Edit 3: Yup, looked at CN from 1999, and although they do mention somebody bought the ending for $1,000 on ebay, there isn't very much info.

In my experience, the various archives on the internet are surprisingly vague about the whole thing. Like, it makes total sense that they wouldn't really wanna put the name of the buyer on the official site when they're making fun of them, right? But why can I find seemingly all this discussion in various usenet groups about the whole thing, including that the final price was "over $1100" and the buyer may have been associated with some sort of X-rated cartoon fan content (two frustratingly vague details for their specificity), but nobody thought to write the username down?
Reading alt.fan.space-ghost, I get the feeling that the fandom mostly used things like mailing lists and chat rooms that are lost to time. I've sent an email off to the list maintainer for a specific mailing list that keeps being mentioned, to see if perhaps he has any archives, but I think it's probably a long shot. There is a private Google Group that might also have information.
Beyond all that... well, it's so tangential to the search. Even if I do uncover all these hypothetical archives of 1999 internet fandom discussions, what will that even find us? Information for information's sake? With this little to go off of, I guess that's really all we CAN find.
I hope Brolly22 gets back to me soon, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

True true. I guess I'm just surprised there wasn't more press on the whole thing, except for that one article I found. Auctioning off a script ending for charity seems like it would be a little news worthy, no?
People are overly obssessed with the Broly lead imho. There is no sign he actually won. 250$ is pretty low compared to 1110$. The chances of the person who took the screenshot taking it at just the exact time as when the winner happened to be the highest bidder during the early stages of the bidding war, and without knowing they would end up beimg said winner, is very, very low. I say we give up on finding the winner of the auction, and instead ask Space Ghost writers from around that time if they recall or have the ending. Those willing to share, anyways.

Yeah you're right. Someone else probably did buy it, and they just never knew that people would be looking for it about 25 years later, and basically didn't know that no-one would know that they were the one who bought it.

I wonder if they can legally talk about it? Although it has been years. At any rate, one writer admitted that he couldn't even remember the ending anyway.
Maybe we should try Adult Swim directly? They did air Rude Removal, and they even addressed Minoriteam on TV. There's a chance they might be responsive to fans about this mystery, even if the OGs are gone.

That's fair. The main reason I was concerned about it was because of that reddit/twitter thread where someone claiming to be Brolly said they had won it but also never read it and also lost it, which seems like complete nonsense but we can't technically disprove.

Got a response from the owner of the mailing list I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, they lost their archives, but they suspect that other people may have archives of the mailing list. The cycle of me sending emails to people continues.
As discussed upthread, this is extremely tangential to the search, but my hope is that this will uncover at least a bit of information that might help us, in lieu of somebody contacting people who worked on the show (Has anyone? I've already been contacting so much on the fandom side that I'd really rather someone else handle the contacts on the actual show-workers front)
