I’m walking outside right now and I just walked passed a couple, this would be nothing significant at all normally, but I swear, as I looked down and looked up again, I saw ANOTHER couple walking towards me getting ready to pass me, and I looked back and the other couple was gone. And this new couple? I am 85% sure they are the exact same ones as the one I JUST walked by. The only thing that’s making me think this is a weird coincidence is that the guys face looks slightly different, but other than that, everything looked the almost the same from what I recall
This is freaky, did I just experience a glitch in the matrix or something?
I’m about to watch the series finale of ATLA for the first time tonight after a few weeks ago when I started watching this show for the first time ever
Honestly, this might be the best show I’ve ever watched lol

I remember the first time I watched Sozins Comet.
It was a memorable end to one of my summers.

The finale was nearly perfect. While it has 2 potential DEMs (which have been a debate in the fandom since the finale aired apparently, and it’s still going on now), I think it’s not that bad.
The first one is the Lion Turtle, and in my opinion it worked, but barely and could’ve used some definite improvement with a few changes.
the only buildup for The Lion Turtle is in the opening there’s a statue when aang airbender, some statues of it can be seen in the series, and theres a scroll of it in the library (just a picture)
In the finale, what happens is - Aang gets called to by the lion turtle itself, which is why he walked off in the night (he didn’t run away again) - Aang is on top of the Lion Turtle calling to his past lives for help with his dilemma, and they offer general wisdom with some encouraging him to kill Ozai, until Aang notices the island is moving. - Aang goes underwater to see why and finds a hand, then looks for the face and sees this is a Lion Turtle - The Lion Turtle talks to Aang, and gives him the knowledge to end the war with option he desires (energybending)
The fact he is called by the LT and doesn’t conveniently stumble across it makes the thing make more sense and makes it doesn’t seem too severely anticlimactic, but it is still a DEM technically, but I’d consider this a not-horrible DEM, just a flawed one. The way this could be fixed is something like: - A throwaway line from someone like Sokka in the library which says something like “Hey Aang, look at this! Apparently there’s this creature called the Lion Turtle who can gift bending to anyone it calls, neat!” - A throwaway line from someone like Iroh about how Lion Turtles are alive (probably as something during a piece of wisdom to Zuko) and Zuko shares this with Aang nonchalantly during the episode ‘The Firebending Masters’
So it’s not too bad, but it could’ve been better, but it’s not a dealbreaker
The second one is the whole rock activating the avatar state thing. This one is about the same for me, not TOO bad, but could’ve been a lot better.
Before the finale: - Aang spiritually unlocks the final chakra in the S2 finale, but it gets locked physically when he gets struck by lightning and dies for a few minutes - Katara touches the scar but Aang has flashbacks to that traumatic scene, and she acknowledges that the scar spot has a lot of energy there (something along those lines)
And in the finale, when he hits the rock he activates the avatar state, which is a bit of a DEM. However, he didn’t just “hit a rock in the right place”. - Ozai clearly pushed him back against the wall and was about to kill him again for starters (which would activate the AS if it wasn’t for the chakra issue) - Aang hit the wall with his entire back side, not just a pointy rock - The wall/rock impacted his scar, which was shown to intensely remind him of the incident with the chakra and was shown to have a weird energy in it. So, considering the intense situation which would’ve activated the AS normally anyways, the physical impact on the scar which was established earlier to be funky, and the chakra being locked only physically but not spiritually, it makes some slight sense that the AS activated.
This could’ve also been made clearer and better too, but it isn’t a “bad” part of the episode and doesn’t ruin it at all. Plus, he didn’t even defeat Ozai in the AS, The defeat came after he came out of it, so that also makes this DEM not be all too bad. So while these 2 flaws do exist in the episode, they don’t ruin it and are fine, just could’ve been a fair amount better.
On a side note: Aang keeping Ozai alive is perfectly fine, If he killed him, it would’ve proven him right that mercy is pointless and that killing your enemy is the only way. While it would’ve been neat to see him kill Ozai, it’s fine he didn’t + this aired on Nickelodeon anyway.
