And it seems it really was French! Original title: « Les Conquérants »!
The credits are in French and cite many French animators; with character designers whose visual style is recognizable such as the Papyrus cartoon!
Now, this movie has no mention at all on the internet (if you don’t count our very discussions here and on Reddit).
And the animation is kinda choppy, has the characters transparent and sketchy black and white…
I would say, it seems the movie was never officially finished, and so it was never cited in anyone’s resume, and for some reason, through some way… the rough reel found itself in the hands of some Brazilian distributor who found a way to have it sold as a genuine feature cartoon…
Wow! This is neat! Some of the organizations mentioned in the end credits do exist including Neyrac Films (https://www.neyracfilms.fr/) and Fédération Nationale de la Mutualité Française (https://www.mutualite.fr/). The latter must have just been a sponsor because it has nothing to do with movie or entertainment. It's a health insurance company.
So much for being popular in over 100 countries! As you mentioned in the last sentence, it was probably someone at Lloyds video with international connections who may have heard of this project and negotiated with the French studio to sell a copy of it for their own film for their collection. Otherwise it would have been a total loss.

That is awesome!!! Hmm... The film looks like it wasn't really been finished, which explains why it's so difficult to find anything about it on the internet. It seems that production was interrupted on the "pencil test" part. Strangely, all the backgrounds were fully painted and finished, in contrast to the unfinished animation that was still even on paper.
After watching the whole film, I could say that, if it was properly completed, it would really be something successful. The characters are full of personality, the animation is fluid enough, the story is captivating, etc. But the film ends with an abrupt cut, without an outcome or explanation of some of the things that happened previously (what happened to Satya on the boat when he was young, what was really inside the boxes left on the island, ...) , mainly because it was not finished at all, which is a shame. The film is very good.
Part of what is written on the cover seems to be true: the film was most likely something made for World Children's Day or something children-related. It touches a lot on the subject of young people's rights, child slavery, children being exploited or abused, etc. what makes me believe that this was indeed made for it, kind of like the "Meena" cartoon, also from 1993. But it definetely wasn't a success in over 100 countries 😅
Actually, that is my friend's YouTube channel. So I guess he finally managed to find a copy of it somewhere. That's great! I'll email him later about this.
I am glad it got found so early and you got to enjoy it! Shame I can't understand Portuguese. Maybe if someone could make a subtitled version... this movie looks very interesting to me.

Thanks a lot for the help!
Also, on YouTube there is that automatic subtitles tool. With it, you can automatically generate subtitles in Portuguese and then use the tool to translate the subtitles in the video itself. Of course, sometimes there are some errors or inconsistencies but you can more or less understand what is said.

I studied some Portuguese a few years back and I was able to understand much of it that a few lines made me chuckle. It helps that I also know Spanish and French. I can help a bit, but not too much with my current schedule.

Reminds me I should finish subtitling in English the first episode of "Moi Renart"... another long-lost French cartoon that had been found after I personally contributed to the search.

Well, I could try to subtitle some of it into english on my spare time. But my routine is very busy. Nevertheless, i'll try to do that when I can. :)
Sadly, the film was deleted off YouTube, along with my friend's channel. That's weird, don't know why.
Luckily, I've managed to download it and save it into my external HD! I will post it later on the Internet Archive. I'm a little busy right now so that may take a little while.
I downloaded it just in case! But I see someone already reuploaded it!
I have also taken care to look at the credits. So many French names who worked on cartoons I know, such as director Michel Gauthier who directed classic sci-fi series Les Mondes Engloutis (localized in English as Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea). And yet, extremely few of them mention Les Conquérants in their resume.
A notable thing is that the cartoon was produced by studio SAVEC that has little information about it available. Standing for "Société pour l'Audiovisuel dans l'éducation et la culture", it was an independant production company run by Claude Cobast (who also created the original screenplay/dialogues of Les Conquérants) that did educational films, including a few animated shorts that got rewards. The SAVEC shut down in 1998 and Claude Cobast passed away in 2013.
The ending credits also mention they got support from the Centre National de la Cinématographie (public organization that supports local filmd works) and the Fédération Nationale de la Mutualité Française (association of the health insurance supplement companies).
They mention a voice talent credit to Karina Films, a dubbing/post-production audio company. This implies that there is a possiblity there was a French dub made, even though no voice actors are listed, and I doubt those French credits would mention this for the Brazilian Portuguese dub!
I will make a LMW article about this. A lost cartoon that we didn't even know existed was found, and I think there is more to it that is still lost. I still wish I can watch this in French, as it should be...
And I managed to contact one former animator. He told me it was the first time he saw the cartoon edited and put together with sound. It has been 30 years after all... He also told me that the pencil-sketch-transparent characters was not the result of production costs being cut, but a deliberate artistic choice meant to invoke an art sketchbook. And that animating that back then, with a rostrum camera on an animation stand, was "crazy work!".

Awesome to hear comments from the creator at the time! They completely nailed that sketchbook feeling, that's for sure. Never seen that before, very creative from their part!
I think it deserves at least an article for being found even though nobody was looking for it since nobody even knew it existed!
And hoping to see it in French...
And I feel there's a possibility for extra footage to have been made, since it seems to have been cut short. Though it might make the article title a bit loaded.
