A lot of us have hazy memories of something and try to find it again years later. Of course there's a forum where people talk about these things, but what about independent searches you've done that you never talked about on here and have already finished? This is your opportunity to spin a yarn.
When I first started living in Mexico as a kid (this would be 2003), I heard a weird song on a TV. The signal wasn't great and I had no idea what channel it was, what language the video was in, whatever, I was just walking around a market and for a minute or two listened to what I felt was a haunting melody. Soon afterward, I got really really sick for a couple weeks. I kept hearing the song in my head, like it was haunting me, it actually really upset me at the time. Eventually I got over the illness, though I never forgot about the song, thinking to myself how once as a kid it had cursed me while I was sick.
Around the early mid 2010s I started to wonder to myself what that song was. I could remember large parts of the pre-chorus and chorus, but I had no idea how to identify it. Again I didn't even know what language it was in. Then, unexpectedly, it appeared! It played on a television while I was out having dinner. I was shocked and immediately looked the song up on Wikipedia. Turns out it was a Hindi pop song. Satisfied, I put my phone down, happy I had solved the mystery. Anyway, I didn't retain this information and it was lost again.
In 2020, I wanted to find the song again. Now I had heard it twice in my life and could only remember it had a tiny Wikipedia page and vague info I had read. This time, I searched for real. I had only really wondered about it before, not gone in and tried to find it myself. I pored through hundreds of Indian and Bollywood songs, knowing that I would identify the song instantly if I just heard the right bit. I put down and picked up the search multiple times, frustrated looking through Youtube videos with no idea what I was looking for. I tried narrowing it down to various years, I think it was a 2002 playlist I ended up on. When this video began, I felt a little chill. Even before the music begins I think I kind of knew.
It turns out the song was DJ Doll's Kaanta Laga. It's a cover of an older song and a pretty normal song really. I gave the video a Like so I would always be able to find it again (not making that mistake again), but I still can barely stand to listen to it. It's not actually a weird song, I just associate it with bad memories. It's actually a nostalgic favorite to many it seems, and is heavily associated with the video's 'thong girl'. But that's the end of that mystery from my childhood.
