Don't you just hate when your favorite album of all time is entered into RateYourMusic with the tracklist for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ALBUM?? And then you try to create an account to fix it but your edit has to be approved by a moderator before it shows up (which I guarantee is never going to happen in my entire life)??
Well, they certainly wasted no time with that. It's still the 19th in half of the world, but the IMDb forums have been officially killed. I guess now would be the time to post any pages you guys saved, either here or in the comment sections if it's for something that has an article on the site.
I'd just like to remind everyone that this happens 2 days from now. I THINK I already got all the ones that were used in articles, but I would still recommend that you guys archive ANY threads you might find interesting ASAP, because once that stuff is gone, it's gone forever, and nobody else is going to do it for you. And don't forget to archive them in flat mode, and get the 2nd, 3rd pages, etc as well.
imo it takes too long to fade to the technical difficulties screen. People would've been screaming and running up to her.
Are you implying if someone shot themselves out of nowhere right in front of you, it wouldn't take you a second or two of silence to register what just happened? People don't anticipate this sort of thing, it's not like they had their hand right on the button ready to go.
"we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide"
Ohhh, what's that mean? That too many people are being too mean towards movies and arguing? Shutting down dialogue is the way to go now?
ATTENTION ALL LMW USERS: I have some bad news. The other day some guy rickrolled me and as a result we are now shutting down the forums
(yeah though if there are any specific imdb posts you care about i'd recommend saving them with the wayback machine or archive.is, or both. especially if they're related to lost media or being used as a reference in an article. just archived a couple, i'll get to more tomorrow)
The only thing that I want to know is how the fuck he was able to make such an accurate recreation with only 13k subs and 18 videos.
If the initial subject matter he chose wasn't so morbid, and assuming he did make it himself, I WOULD suggest him turning this whole ordeal into a "Smashified"-type series, where he showcases the process behind realistically recreating various pieces of lost media... I bet that'd gain him some more subs for being an interesting idea, even if people are mad at him at first for hoaxing them (just like the how the real Smashified started!!)
everyone could use some more BABYLON in their lives
to tell you the truth though, ol Shitty is doing a show on the 25th, about 30 minutes away from my house... apparently it's the only time he'll be doing a US tour and i'm super bummed because i can't go. ah well. here are some more of my favorite songs from him:
(that last one has a hilarious rage against the machine sample starting at around 2:45 that pretty much makes the entire song)
About the fade-to-black thing - keep in mind those descriptions were written by people after the fact, possibly without re-watching the footage. There's a reason eyewitness testimonies aren't allowed to be used in court anymore, and it's because human memory is very faulty. Given the traumatic nature of the event, it's only natural that people may have misremembered some of the technical details while only focusing on the big picture that a woman just shot herself. If it's fake then I'd imagine the real tape has a few inconsistencies with the descriptions as well.
Besides, the fade-to-black was one of the most important details we had - if someone went to THAT much trouble of recreating the set in perfect detail, I doubt they would just *forget* how it ended. And for what it's worth, it does fade to black a second after showing the technical difficulties slide (while the tape distortion keeps going, so you can tell it's not just an end-of-the-video fadeout on Nationsquid's part).
I really don't see how anyone could claim to be 100% certain the first one was fake... or certain that it was real. There's too much conflicting evidence and unanswered questions at the moment, just wait a little bit and we'll know the truth. I'm almost positive this guy's next video will be directly related to this - if is isn't, that would be a major mistake on his part.
Kobochat could be right - this may well be a publicity stunt. If so what's the endgame?
At this point he's sort of backed himself into a corner, so I'd expect full transparency from him eventually (if it's real, he'll say how he obtained it, if it's a re-enactment he'll say how it was done). In the meantime, I predict that he's letting it pick up more steam, waiting for it to be reported on by a major news site or something (maybe Vulture again). I'm assuming they'd want to contact him for an interview, and if that happens he has two options. He could either reveal everything right there, or ignore the interview request and build up the mystique even further. I'd caution him not to wait too long though - if someone like Mollie Nelson confirms this to be fake before he says anything about it, people will lose interest in him entirely.
I'm on the fence about the footage, but real or fake, my impression is its casual inclusion is definitely a publicity stunt for the dude's channel. Think about it - do you remember the username of the guy who found Mickey Mouse in Vietnam? I don't, at least not off the top of my head, but I remember the story of how it was found. What about the username of the guy who found Apples And Breaks? Same deal. It's a given that people care more about the media than the person who found it.
And here we have a guy who's been making YouTube videos for years only to get middling popularity at best. Let's humor him and say he actually got the real footage somehow - if he just uploaded it on its own and announced it as a big find, everyone would pay attention to the footage being found but completely ignore the other stuff on his channel. So he put it in one of his traditional videos with no explanation, to get people talking about him. Notice that with the Treadwell audio, he has a disclaimer about where it came from and that it might be fake. Same with the London After Midnight clip - he says it's POSSIBLE footage (it isn't, by the way). There is no such disclaimer for the Chubbuck footage, he just drops it in without saying anything. That's not an accident, he's definitely winking at us.
This is the reason why he's taken the time to respond to silly comments about his channel username, but not the elephant in the room. He knows everyone wants to know the origin of the footage, but the longer he ignores it, the more time we'll have to analyze him, his video, his motives, and therefore remember his content. And it's so coincidental he uploaded this at the exact same time he opened up a new message board on his website! Given how much exposure his small channel is getting just from this, I have no doubt he'll milk it for all it's worth and keep us in the dark for as long as he can.
Well, NationSquid, your publicity stunt worked. Bravo. From your video I get the impression you've used the site before, so if you're reading this, I'll just say: You have our full attention now, and we're ready for the backstory whenever you are.
The way she falls is so unnatural... not even necessarily in a "this is fake" way, just in a "that is fucking disgusting" way. Is it just me, or does it almost look like her head came off? Obviously that's not what happened, but they way it falls immediately onto the desk and stays there stationary for a second while the rest of her body slowly twists around is repulsive. I can't even visualize what that would look like without the distortion.
