"There was one episode called 'Special Ed' that didn't go through - it was just too real." This is rather interesting; Ed, Edd n' Eddy is for the most part, realistic. What was "too real" about this episode?
My take on it: Ed is put in a special needs class.
If this were the plot, yeah, I could see why it would be "too real". But alas, Danny Antonucci has never spoken anything else about this episode.
What's your thoughts on it?
Here's the wiki article, for reference: lostmediawiki.com/Ed,_Edd_n_Eddy_%27Special_Ed%27_(rumoured_lost_unfinished_2005_episode;_existence_unconfirmed)
I don't think it has to do with an actual Special Ed class, as that would require new students to fill such a class. I believe it may have been an exploration into why Ed is as dumb as he is. Knowing Danny, this could have established Ed as an actual mentally handicapped person.
Given the title of the episode, it is possible that it went into too sensitive of a topic such as mental disorders, then again, every episode title did have an "Ed" pun to it, much of the time having nothing to do with the plot of the episode, so anything's possible. I'm just going to go with the "special education class" idea because it makes the most sense.
I do have some further info about this. Raven Molisee, a crew member who was brought onto the show later in production, actually asked the staff about the episode. No one could recall anything about it, hinting towards it never being put int production. I've heard theories of "too real" referring to "too realistic" (or boring for a cartoon).

Not only was it "too real", but it's a little too much for CN. And by too much, it's basically raising questions over kids' heads. Also, disabled kids might feel this is making fun of them or making them feel like nothing.
