From 1999-2004 I was in elementary school (K-5). Throughout my time there I had to have seen a lot of obscure movies from the live action version of “The Mouse On The Motorcycle”, to the “Lollypop Dragon”. They’d show us things on film rolls (Via projectors), laser disk’s, VHS, slide shows with separate audio from a cassette tape, You name it. however there was one short animated film that always stuck with my mind.
In the year 2000 I was in first grade at Pennell Elementary in Aston, PA (Mrs. Mary Anne McCarron was my teacher). It wasn’t too far into the new school year since were were still learning the very basics. In this case, colors. More specIfically the more “intermediate“ things about this subject such as primary colors. One day we were being taught about the color wheel, and in order to help us learn my teacher put on a movie.
.
Before I explain the plot let me give some of the technicals about this film. Please be aware I might be wrong about some things since I’m going off of memory. I think it had to have been on VHS because the teacher let us watch it twice and just rewound the video. The movie was animated and it had to have been between 5-15 minutes. The animation was very weird. I remember it having no backgrounds. Most of the time it was solid white but I think it went grey at certain points. The characters and props looked like they were drawn with Crayons/colored pencils and the mouths and eyes were animated more professionally. It wasn’t sloppy or anything to my knowledge. At certain points it would cut to live action footage of children finger-painting on the ground to mix colors.
The thing that stumps me the most was the title. It was called “The G—- Gray Monster”. I can’t recall what the second word in this title was but I am SURE it started with a ”G”. For simplicity’s sake I will be referring to him as simply “The Grey Monster”.
Here was the WHOLE plot. I remember most of the dialogue but I’ll probably be off by some points/words. I’ll try to get through the whole thing.
There was no title or text for the film shown on screen.
It fades in from black and shows an animated little girl wandering around a white background. Random splotches of different colors are shown popping up around her. Then dialogue happens. I will try to write out what I remember (might differ).
A large cloud like grey monster just appears out of nowhere. I think the white background got a little darker. The Girl is scared.
So the colors are gone (even though the girl still has colors on her). She mopes around and wonders what she’s going to do.
Then LITERALLY out of nowhere a red thing flies in. I think he was triangular or traffic-cone shaped.
Red goes on to tell the girl that he got kicked out of the monsters fortress. Apparently while The Grey Monster was sleeping in his bed/throne, he sneaks up and turns his shoes red. This angers the monster so he kicks him out. The girl and Red decide to work together to save the other colors.
The next scene they are in the castle in front of the Monster who is sitting on a throne.
Naturally the monster laughs them out of the room. They leave and wonder how they can fix all of this.
And this is where I can’t remember anything too well so I’ll try and give it my best shot.
As they leave it turns out two other colors managed to escape (I guess). There was Blue, who was either rectangular or similar to Red, and Yellow, who looked like a little sun/sunflower. They then decide to make new colors by mixing them up. At one instance this dialogue is exchanged.
And they crash together and green just appears. I cannot recall what he looked like aside from being green.
Every-so often it cuts to the pre-mentioned live action footage of children mixing paint to form the new colors.
Every-time a new color is made it would line them all up in a circle. The girl sees a gap between blue and red.
It cuts to the live action shots and they make purple which shows up as some kind of Jellyfish thing.
Then the girl wonders what happens if you mix all the colors.
It shows the kids doing this and then A stinger goes off as it reveals brown.
The Grey Monster shows up and gives an evil laugh
The girl then decides that The Grey Monster should be in the center of her color wheel. I might be wrong but I think all the colors hug him and he turns brown or they don’t and he just stays grey (pretty sure it was that one). In the end the Grey Monster becomes happy to be part of the group and he stands in the middle of the wheel.
THE END
I apologize if this post is too long and too obscure. I can imagine it was some kind of independent short or something but either way it was released on a home media and I remember watching it twice in a row. I can try and draw out the characters if you guys want because I think I vaguely recall what they looked like
If you guys ever saw this or know of the title, let me know. Or hell, if you guys have a link to this obscure film, PLEASE link it. I’d like to see it again.

NARRATOR
(Insert Girls name here) loves her colors. When suddenly...
A large cloud like grey monster just appears out of nowhere. I think the white background got a little darker. The Girl is scared.
GIRL
Wh...who are you?
The monster gives an evil laugh
THE GREY MONSTER
Hahahaha. I’m the G—- Grey Monster. And I’ve come to steal all your precious colors.
GIRL
Oh no!
So the colors are gone (even though the girl still has colors on her). She mopes around and wonders what she’s going to do.
Then LITERALLY out of nowhere a red thing flies in. I think he was triangular or traffic-cone shaped.
GIRL
What the...why...You’re red. Very very Red. But I thought The G—- Grey Monster stole all the colors.
RED
Not me though. I escaped.
THE GREY MONSTER
Why RED...I...I see red.
RED
We’re here to free the other colors out of your castle.
Naturally the monster laughs them out of the room. They leave and wonder how they can fix all of this.

GIRL
Watch out Blue…You’re going to crash into Yellow.
And they crash together and green just appears. I cannot recall what he looked like aside from being green.
RED
Hey it’s Green! Where’d he come from?

GIRL
Oh dear, there’s a hole here. What does blue and red make?
It cuts to the live action shots and they make purple which shows up as some kind of Jellyfish thing.
Then the girl wonders what happens if you mix all the colors.
It shows the kids doing this and then A stinger goes off as it reveals brown.

THE GREY MONSTER
hhahahahaha. Brown.
